Family Readiness Group Leadership

FRG Leader Position Description


Position Title: Family Readiness Group (FRG) Leader

Responsible to: Unit Commander

Purpose: Organize and lead the unit’s FRG

Supervisor: Unit Commander

Duties:
ΠSupports the command's family readiness goals.
ΠProvides overall leadership for the FRG.
Œ Serves as the commander’s primary family member representative and point of contact.
ΠEstablishes and maintains communication with the chain of command to ensure
pertinent information is exchanged.
ΠServes as a member of the Unit Family Readiness Steering Committee.
ΠKeeps unit informed of FRG activities or meetings.
ΠCommunicates with each contact family member regularly and as needed during periods
of deployment and sustainment.
ΠDistributes accurate and timely information to family members.
ΠProvides important family readiness information to the unit family readiness newsletter.
ΠRecruits other volunteers to serve on FRG committees.
ΠProvides opportunities for social interaction among unit families.
ΠIdentifies needs or unique problems of unit families.
ΠOutlines the assistance offered by community agencies.
Œ Acts as unit FRG spokesperson for communicating family members’ concerns and ideas
to the unit.
ΠMaintains monthly volunteer hours and reports to the chain of command and the ACS.
ΠThe use of a motor vehicle, personal or government, is not required.
Œ All FRG volunteers working with children require “line of sight” supervision at all activities
and programs with children in attendance. At no time will a volunteer who has not had
a completed background check be allowed to supervise children without a volunteer or
employee that has a completed background check.
ΠReport any safety issues that may render you or clients susceptible to injuries.

Time Required and Term:


Π5-10 hours a week (depending on scheduled activities).
ΠOne year commitment as a minimum.

Qualifications & Special Skills:


ΠKnowledge of family readiness programs, unit structure and procedures and post
agencies and services.
ΠAbility to work well with others.

Recommend Training:
ΠFRG Training
ΠOperation READY classes
ΠAFTB Levels I, II, III classes
ΠVolunteer training and/or past experience
