El ADN nuclear está presente en todas las células del cuerpo humano
(excepto en los eritrocitos, que carecen de núcleo), por lo que es posible
extraerlo a partir de cualquier material biológico: sangre, saliva, semen,
pelos con raíz, huesos, tejidos, etc., así como de cualquier vestigio que
pueda contener algún resto biológico (colilla, sello, chicle, cepillo de
dientes, ropa usada…).
La selección de las muestras a analizar, su toma y recogida, identifica-
ción, conservación, custodia y transporte hasta el laboratorio son factores
de vital trascendencia en cualquier análisis de ADN.
En el laboratorio se procede a la extracción del ADN a partir de la
muestra a analizar siendo necesario ajustar el método de extracción a las
particularidades de la muestra en cuestión. Tras la cuantificación de la can-
tidad de ADN presente en el extracto se procede a su individualización,
que puede llevarse a cabo principalmente mediante dos tipos de análisis.
