B. On Irony

Instruction: Explain below the irony behind the last sentence of the poem “The
Conversion” which is

We die to rise to a better life.

This quote does not neccessarily mean to die and be gone on this world but it’s about the
challenges we faced, the breakdowns that makes us shutdown entirely and have nothing
to think of. It is indeed to "rise in a better life" after we experienced losing, we are back
on track and ready to fight with better ideas and solutions.

Simply, if the plan doesn't work you need to change it but don't change the goal.

Reflection Questions:

What did you feel?

I miss being a little kid with no stress, worries, or care in the world. Although school is a
lot of work, stressful, and overwhelming, I love being a student. The challenges I face
and the people I meet are helping me become a better person and are helping prepare
me for the world outside of academia. The most difficult part of beings a student can be
having the self-discipline to study every day and prepare for tests ahead of time. School
should be treated like your job, and if you want to do well, you will need to put in the
work.

What were your realizations?

I know that all the knowledge that I have gained will help in once I start my
professional practice. This module has been very enlightening for me. It made me
question myself, what type of teacher would I want to be in the future? To be honest I
never really thought about it until this module.

The different concepts and principles that I have learned from this module made
me realize what type of teacher I want to be in the future. I want to be the type of teacher
who is not just good in transmitting knowledge but I also want to be a fun and
interactive teacher. I want my students to be involve in all activities and be more involve
in their learning. I want them to develop their critical thinking skills and they should
know how to apply the concepts that they have learned in real life.

To be honest, I always feel that I don’t have an inch of creativity on my body. But
since I have learned in this course the importance of being a creative teacher I would try
my best to practice it. I want to create activities that is outside the box and fun to fully
engage and motivate my students in learning. After this course, I would try my best to
continue to evolve and improve as a teacher and as learner.

Instruction: Read and answer the following questions below. Write your answers in a 1
whole sheet of paper.

1. What are your views on the Portrayal of Society in Media?

Mass media have huge reach in society and are a key filter through which people learn
about each other, yet countless studies demonstrate that these media continue to
reproduce ethnic and racial stereotypes, with often harmful effects.

2. Do you think having stereotypes affect the younger generation in a possible way?
Explain your answer (2 paragraphs).

Stereotypes, one of the most important schemes used for orientation in society
environment. Stereotypes represent the opinions among members of a specific group
about other groups. These opinions can be result from one' own observations or simply
be adopted from influences of others, such as family, friends and media.

In the modern era, stereotypes are important factor of how modern people
interact and socialize with each other. Having stereotypes, people have detailed
knowledge about certain type of people, making it possible for people to easily
categorized new things into more comfortable spaces already defined by experience.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of Media Convergence?

Advantage

 The content creators can use the platform to generate customized content that is
targeted at a specific group.
 This has also brought about a change in the dynamics of economy as distribution
and cost structure is not the same in traditional media.
 It has brought about a sense of Post Modernism to the field of media
consumption where the consumer is not an audience but is also a co creator.
 This has also brought about a change in the experience that a person goes
through by consuming media. It has transcended the limitations of the traditional
media.
Disadvantage

 This has brought in a certain amount of unpredictability in the responses that a

media would receive. With the audience being exposed to a plethora of media
platforms it gets tough to understand what has had what kind of effect on the
consumer.
 Media Convergence has brought about a shift in the control that the content
creator had over it’s property. With the advent of blogs, mobiles and emails the
consumers are exposed to large amount of unbranded content. This has led to an
increase in the competition for consumer’s time and attention that the content
creators face.

Image Analysis: Evaluate the image and describe what you see. Write down what you
have evaluated. Your interpretation of what is happening will depend a lot on the
assumptions you make about the society in which you live. Your responses will also be
based on codes you implicity understand.

I see a man and a lady talking. Apparently they are communicating. Communicating
helps people to express their ideas and feelings, and it, at the same time, helps us to
understand emotion and thoughts of the others. As a result, we will develop affection or
hatred toward other people, and positive or negative relationships will be created.

The hand gesture of the man is called index finger. Calling someone towards you by
repeatedly curling your index finger is a seductive gesture in many Hollywood films, but
in Philippines it’s a method of communication only considered appropriate to use on
dogs.

Being able to communicate effectively is one of the most important life skills. Those with
good interpersonal skills are strong verbal and non-verbal communicators and are often
considered to be “good with people”. To learn. Communication is defined as transferring
information to produce a greater understanding.

If our love was tragedy, Why are you my remedy?

Love happens! Does it? We have read great stories. Tragic stories. And all of them ended with
loss of life and a hope of future union. Love, and hope goes side by side. Death can’t defeat love,
rather it unites the lovers in one eternal sleep. Religion which promises afterlife, knows the
power of love and evokes this emotion to give the followers a sense of peace and happiness.

Love affects all, but the young who are inexperienced feels the power of the unknown feeling
strongly, that sweeps them of their sense. Love is a wonderful feeling. Let it sway you into a
world full of promises, red roses, pleasant dreams and happiness. It is strange that love stands on
promises. The girl promises, the boy promises. And fidelity is something that becomes an
exchange currency in love. Faith and faithfulness are the tenets of trust. And love begins with
trust and ends with trust. And all these wonderful emotions make a man, a woman and love
whole.

If a boy loves a girl and gives his whole self to her. Does it matter?

“I can’t live a day without you,” said the boy. “I would rather die!”

The girl was happy to find love in the truest form. She knew the boy was faithful to her. Life
had given her everything. They talked of future, and plans about marriage and children.

One day, the girl while meeting the boy asked, “How much do you love me?”

The boy said, “My life is yours. I love you more than my life!”

The girl sadly smiled. “Prove it. Live a day, without seeing or talking to me.”

The boy looked glum. “What do I get for that?” “We marry the next day,” she smiled the
sweetest smile.

The boy agreed. The next twenty four hours were going to be the longest in his life. She had
been like a drug in his life. He was addicted to her. And without her, his world seemed to be
hollow. The 24 hours of patience, without a message, a phone call, or seeing her, would make
him a mad man. It looked like he was suffering from withdrawal symptoms of a drug. But the
prospect of marriage made him keep his promise. He counted the minutes, the seconds. He
dreamed of her. Her smile was so fresh, like the blossoming rose. Her voice was so soft and
sweet. That was what life had been with her. Fresh and sweet!

It was evening, when the 24 hour period was about to end. A young kid came to deliver a
letter to the boy. The boy quickly read the content of the letter. Without even dressing
properly, he ran to meet his girl. As he ran frantically on the road, a car crashed into him
ending his life.
The girl was a cancer patient. She knew her end was near. She had asked the boy to live
a day without her, so that he could learn to live without her. That is what she had written
in her letter.

Dear love,

Congrats. You have won. My soul is yours, and I give that to you in this life and after life.
You know I have cancer and you have always wished to be near me; but today I felt my
end was near. You wanted to marry me, so that you would be with me in all moments of
my life. But I didn’t want you to bear the pain of my separation. As you have won and
have learnt to live a day without me, I believe that you can live each day just as the same,
without me. I promised to marry you, and I will keep my promise in Heaven. God is kind
and merciful. He has given us life and made us meet in this beautiful time and space, He
will show His Grace again. I have faith in him.

That day, there were two funeral processions. It looked like nature had made a plan to
unite the spirits of the two lovers. The boy had kept his promise. He couldn’t live a day
without his love. And the girl died loving him. They were buried side by side. There was
a soft breeze, and flowers blew on the graves. It looked that there was a union of the
spirits of the lovers. They were getting married, and nature was celebrating in its own
way…

Instruction: Answer the following questions and write it in a bond paper.

1. What do you think is the playwrights goal for coming up with such literary
composition?
A playwright’s goal is to deliver his or her story in a manner that encourages action;
embodiment of sights, sounds, and movements; and the excitement of live, three
dimensional effects for an audience.

2. Which kind of play would help in promoting appreciation for drama? Explain your
point.

Suspense because tension is a growing sense of expectation within the drama, a feeling
that the story is building up towards something exciting happening. Without tension in
a scene it is hard to keep the audience engaged with what is happening so the work may
be flat and dull.

3. In your opinion, which way could help create a character effectively? Cite your
reasons.

 Develop characters who reflect your interests.

 Reveal their physical world through detail.
 Give them the right skills.
 Create memorable characters.
 Give the reader access to their inner conflict.
 Subvert your reader’s expectations.

4. How does creative writing and creative nonfiction contributes to your skills and
learnings in writing effectively as a Senior High School student? Explain your point.

Creative writing also develops creative thoughts, using their imaginations, suggest
alternatives, broaden their though process and problem-solving abilities. It allows the
child to show their opinions and develop their voice. Writing also helps to improve
organization from a young age. Creative nonfiction writers write about themselves and
others, capturing real people and real life in ways that can and have changed the world
what is most important and enjoyable about creative nonfiction is that it not only allows
but also encourages the writer to become a part of the story or essay being written.

5. Do you think learning these subject would give such development to your critical
thinking skills? Why or why not?

Yes because writing develops critical thinking skills. Writing improves the thinking
process and contributes to the development of critical thinking skills because an
individual has to clearly state ideas and lay out arguments in such a way as to cultivate
higher order thinking.
