Lesson 2.

The Mystifying Flaw

Today’s
Inspiration
“Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God;
Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty…Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the
day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”
Ezekiel 28:12, 15 KJV

Guide Questions:

a. What is the problem in the picture?

b. Why do imperfections exist?
c. In life, how can we make our righteous when we are sinful?

Just like in the picture, our world today is filled flaws. From nature’s beauty to human’s
characters. The perfect world that God made was tainted with imperfections. That is what we call
“sin.”
In this lesson, we will know when, where, who, how, and why sin began. Come with
me.

The Journey

Lucifer was a perfect angel. He was made by God with beauty and awesome talent.
However, as Lucifer was in awe of his
beauty, little by little something inside
him got rotten. Of all the angels in
Heaven, Lucifer was the most beautiful,
the most intelligent, the most exalted. He
was the highest angel in all of heaven,
standing daily in the very presence of
God.
We can imagine that Lucifer really
thought of himself better from the rest.
That led him to a very big problem,
pride. Pride is something that you feel
better of yourself compared to the. If
you are overwhelmed with pride it is
now selfishness. This is the problem that
went into the heart of Lucifer as he
compared himself to the rest of the
angels in heaven.
WHEN JEALOUSY CAME

One day, Lucifer was not very happy. Why? Because God made a council to plan for the
creation of our earth. A meeting of the Godhead! Lucifer was probably thinking why was he not
invited in this council when he is the highest among the angels. Lucifer longed to be part of this
council but he is not worthy because, like all angels, he too, was a created being. This meeting was
a meeting of those who can create, in which the Godhead is only involved.
Lucifer probably asked God, “Why am I not included?” God explained it to Lucifer that he
cannot be part of it for he cannot create. Lucifer wanted to be part of this divine council. Lucifer
wanted to be like God. “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God…I
will make myself like the Most High” (Exodus 14:13, 14).
Probably later he asked God, “What about Michael?” Now, Michael is the angel name
given to the Son. As the Supreme Commander of heaven, He communicated the will of the
Father to all the angels. Lucifer was jealous of Michael and wanted His authority and His
abilities. For a long time, he kept this jealousy within him and this led him to resent the Son as
time passed by.
And so, Lucifer, as a very influential leader, started to talk negatively about God to his
fellow angels. He emphasized how God is so unfair with him. With agreement, the angels,
somehow, supported Lucifer and this made him more confident of his selfish ambitions. “In pride
of your heart you say, ‘I am a god; I sit on the throne of a god” (Ezekiel 28:2). Lucifer started to do
the things which is supposed to be the Michael’s responsibility. He is showing that he is also like a
god. Little by little, Lucifer won the hearts of some angels and they altogether questioned God’s
authority.
Lucifer tempted his fellow angels that they should have the same privilege of God for they too are

vdo what they want. This is the bottom line of sin. It is to make one self, God, instead of letting God be
the God of our lives. Jealousy led to conflict.

GOD’S RESPONSE
The words of Lucifer started un uproar within the angelic hosts. Those angels who were faithful to
God convinced Lucifer that his thoughts were wrong and that God is fair and faithful to every creature.
Furthermore, they explained God’s love, wisdom, and His law is unchanging in nature. These angels
feared that Lucifer would dishonor God by leaving from God’s order and bring ruin upon himself if he
persisted. With all the loyal angel’s warnings, Lucifer did not listen.
God knew what was happening and so God called a grand convocation of all the angelic host. Then
God set straight the true position of the Son, Michael. He shared God’s throne and could fully enter
His purpose. Through the Son, God had created them all. Michael deserved to be praised and be one of
the Godhead. There was no change of the Son. He was always in this status from time eternal.
Michael, God the Son, is God!
Some of those, who were influenced by Lucifer, went back to in trusting the Son as their hearts were
melted by God’s and the Son’s love to all of them. But Lucifer did not, deep within him, his rage
against the Son lingers. So after the convocation, Lucifer continues to spread his feelings of
discontentment and again some angels were led astray by Lucifer.
But God, in loving compassion labored long with Lucifer. God called Lucifer and convinced Lucifer
that his hostility was without cause.

He lovingly revealed the results of continued rebellion,
destruction. Later, Lucifer realized that he was wrong
and that God is indeed fair. Within his heart, he once

correction.

“God in His great mercy bore long with Lucifer…Long was he retained in heaven. Again and again he
was offered pardon…But pride forbade him to submit. He persistently defended his own course,
maintained that he had no need of repentance, and fully committed himself, in the great controversy,
against his Maker’ (The Great Controversy, pp. 495-496).

ACTIVITY #2: THE “I” PROBLEM

Let us correct the “I” problem of Lucifer. Basing from Isaiah 14:13-14, make these “I” statements to
“praise” statements. Write it here below.
“I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of
assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself
the Most High.” Isaiah 14:13-14 ESV

BOOSTERS

THE FOLLOWERS OF LOVE

As the God of Love, those who would like to follow God should learn how to love. Again, love
is not focus on self, but for others. God said, “You shall love your God with all your heart, soul,
and mind…You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39). Furthermore, He
said, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to
me” (Matthew 25:40). You see, if we truly follow God, we must learn to love others, especially
those who are unlovable. This is God’s will for all of us, not to glorify on self but to glorify God
by loving others. Express your love to God by stating your commitment to follow His will.
