Testimony (Church and personal)

May I ask you a question?

(I know you’re a Muslim and you know I’m a Christian. May share with you what we,
Christian, believe about going to heaven?)

Have you come to a point in your life that you were sure that if you were to die today you
would go to heaven?

The bible is written so that we may know that we have eternal life. ( 1 John 5:13)

May I share with you how I came to know for certain that I have eternal life, and you can
know too?

Before I share with you I would like to ask you another question.

Suppose you were to die and stand before God and He asked you, “Why should I let you
into my heaven?” What would you say?

Let me be sure I hear you correctly …… (Repeat and confirm answer)

When you answered the first question I thought I have a pretty good news for you. But
after hearing your answer to the second question, I’m sure I have the best news you have
ever heard.

(Grace – contrast man’s and God’s ways)

Heaven is a free gift

The bible says the gift of God is eternal life. (Rom 6:23)

It is not earned or deserved

According to the bible, this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works so
that no one can boast. (Esph 2:8-9)

(Friend’s Gift)
Suppose your ___ gives you a gift. The first thing you do is to reach into your
purse/wallet to pay for it. How do you think he/she will feel? Insulted! Right? Even if
you are to just pay five cents for it, it is no longer a gift.
Heaven is just like that.

This can be seen more clearly when we understand what the bible says about man.

(Man – seriousness of man’s sin)

Man is a sinner
The bible says for all have sinned. (Rom 3:23)

(Sin Defined)
What is sin? (typical answers are murder, stealing, rape)
Yes, you’re right, these are sins. However, according to the bible, sin is anything that
does not please God. Those sins that you just mentioned are called sins of commission,
which are things that we should not do, which also include losing your temper. There is
another type of sins known as sins of omission, which are anything that we should do but
don’t, like loving your wife / neighbor and respecting your parents. Sins not only include
things that we do, but also things that we say and think, like lying, cursing, lust and pride.
Bible says all these are sins.

(Three Sins a Day)

Suppose I’m a good person. I only sin 3 times a day. In a year I would have sinned more
than a thousand times. If I live till 70 years old, I would have sinned 70 thousands times.
Imagine what would happen to me if I’m a criminal stand in the court with 70 thousands
offences on my record.

This shows that not only I’m a sinner, but also that my sin is a very serious issue.

Man cannot save himself

(Omelet with Bad Egg)
Let me illustrate this with an example. Let say I invited you to my house and want to
cook an omelet for you. I have 5 eggs, and start breaking the eggs into the frying pan.
However, when I break the last egg into the pan, I realize that it is rotten and smell
terrible. I try to take the spoilt egg out but can’t. Finally I decided to just mixed it all up
and still offer it to you. Will you accept it?
It’s is the same with man. We live a life full of sins, rotten things that we do, and still
expect God to accept us.
Now, if we want to get into the heaven on our own effort, all we have to do is be perfect.
Bible says “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly father is perfect”(Matt 5:48). God’s
standard is complete obedience to Him in all things and at all times.

Do you see now why it is impossible for anyone to go to heaven by good works?
