COFA TALKS: What Should School Children Learn About Art?
With the move to create a national curriculum for Australian school children, one of the most
contested areas has been the visual arts curriculum. What exactly should school children learn about
the visual arts? What do we expect people to know before they come to COFA? Is it enough to teach a
creative approach to life, or are their specific skills and bodies of knowledge that any commencing
student should know?

'Flawed' national curriculum faces axe under Coalition
THE federal opposition would scrap the national curriculum and rewrite it if it wins government.
''I am happy to go back to the drawing board and start again,'' he said. ''Until I am satisfied the curriculum
is an improvement on what we have now, I won't be going ahead with it.''
