b1) generate a frequency modulated signal using the ROLINE/METEX as the high frequency
carrier wave generator and the TTi/THURLBY-THANDAR as the low frequency modulation
source. Observe the effect of the shape and the amplitude of the modulation signal.
b2) in this situation, try to generate « the most complicated signal » by using the different
possibilities of the two function generators.
c1) generate an amplitude modulated signal using the TTi/THURLBY-THANDAR as the high
frequency carrier wave generator and the ROLINE/METEX as the low frequency modulation
source. Observe the effect of the shape and the amplitude of the modulation signal.
c2) in this situation, try to generate « the most complicated signal » by using the different
possibilities of the two function generators.
d1) by using the sinusoidal outputs of the two function generators TTi/THURLBY-THANDAR and
ROLINE/METEX, try to stabilize the Lissajous curves on the sceen (using the X-Y mode on the
scopes). Verify that the frequency ratio of the signals is equal to the ratio of the numbers of vertical
and horizontal turn back on the screen.
d2) when the two frequencies are very close, one observes a « rotating ellipse » on the screen :
show mathematically why, and calculate the « rotation frequency » of the ellipse.
d3) observe also the Lissajou curves obtained with triangular and squared shape signals, and try to
explain what is observed.
d4) try to generate « the most complicated Lissajou curves » by using the different possibilities of
the two generators.
e) plot the frequency response curve of the signal as a function fo the modulation voltage VCFin for
the function generator METEX on the frequency range 10k (be carefull: the button for the
continuous adjustement of the frequency has to be placed to its minimum value, and the voltage
VCFin has to be smaller than 10V). Use the frequency meter and the controled voltage output
incorporated in the METEX, and an external voltmeter for the voltage VCFin. The voltage VCFin
will be adjusted by steps of 0.1V in the range [0V,1V] and by steps of 1V in the range [1V,10V].
Plot the diagram f(VCFin) with « Excell » and discuss the linearity of the response by using the
least square regression method.
