Workflow Model
The standard supply chain workflow processes include order picking, receipt handling,
work-in-process and reverse-logistics or returns processing. A workflow model
encapsulates the business policies and procedures of the chosen method of the
workflow process.
Business Policies
Paramount® Workflow Suite enables you to define a workflow model by implementing a
powerful event-driven architecture supporting business policies and the appropriate
procedures. The business policies contain logic statements,
which determine the sequence of tasks within the workflow.
The system enforces the business policies to insure the
consistency of the workflow throughout the organization. For
example: you may need to include a business policy for the
order picking workflow to insure that no more than three
products can be packed into an outer carton.
Services and Events
The business policies can request services, which are results determined by the
business policy. The available services include: print, file export, display message, script,
data entry, direct assignment, message export and SQL processing. For
example: you may want a paper invoice document to print after
completing the picking of an order.
The business policies are assigned to an event, which is an identifiable
action occurring within the workflow. For example: an order picking
workflow include Begin Shipment, Begin Order, Begin Carton, Item
Scan, End Carton, Begin Pallet, End Pallet, End Order, and End
Shipment events. It becomes a logical task of assigning a business policy to an event,
where the event marks a task within the workflow.
Knowledge Management
Once you have built your workflow model, you can analyze, adjust and deploy with
minimal disruption to your organization. The workflow model is a powerful “Knowledge
Management” tool, which reduces overall “worker” training costs. In
general, the workflow model assists the workers in completing their
assigned task effectively and efficiently. For example: If a worker must
place a carton on one of several take-away conveyers, you could assist
the worker by selecting the appropriate conveyer. This business policy
can increase productivity for an experienced worker and allow a trainee
to become immediately efficient and productive, which promotes
interchangeable workers and tasks.
Managing the workflow becomes much easier with Paramount® Workflow Suite. The
workers are given tasks and instructions according to the workflow model. The business
policies and procedures of the workflow model are strictly enforced. This enables a more
relaxed hands-on management approach, since the system establishes a consistent
worker and task specific process. The workflow is also self-contained, where printed
documents and other service requests are available on an “As Needed” basis. For
example: a shipping label is printed after a carton is packed.

Add-ons: These utilities provide

EDIgen is a data transformation tool designed to import/export various structured files.
(e.g. generate an EDI document).
The Bridge utility provides a seamless method for exchanging files with the Paramount®
Workflow Suite system.
The Message Manager Add-on provides several services for processing messages. The
Message Manager currently supports several key “push technology” services, which
include email, fax, and FTP upload.
The SQL Manager Add-on is a gateway providing access to any OLEDB/ODBC compliant
data store.
The Report Manager Add-on is a gateway to the Crystal Reports print engine, which
generates a report's printout or file export based on the criteria assigned by the client.
