INT.

GRYFFINDOR COMMON ROOM - NIGHT

SFX: fire crackling, pages turning, distant talking

NARRATOR
Hermione, Harry, and Ron are siting
in the common room. No one is
bothering them as none of the
Gryffindors have anything to say to
Harry anymore. This was the first
night Harry hadn't been upset by it.
The three didn't talk much, they
were thinking about what they were
about to do.

SFX: people walking up the stairs (distant), talking fading

NARRATOR
One by one, everyone left the common
room, up the stairs to go to sleep,
leaving the three alone.

HARRY
We'd better put the Invisibility
Cloak on in here. Make sure it
covers you're feet - if Filch spots
one of our feet....

SFX: clothes rustling, breathing

RON
(whispering)
Ready?

HERMIONE
Ouch!

RON
Be quiet Hermione!

HERMIONE
You stepped on my foot!

HARRY
Let's just go.

SFX: footsteps in the common room, door opening

INT. HOGWARTS HALL WAY - SAME

HERMIONE, HARRY, and RON are still under the invisibility

cloak, walking through the hallway of Hogwarts. There are
doors lined up on the wall, one of them is ajar.
SFX: footsteps in hallway, "SHHHing," breathing

HARRY
Well, there you are, the door is
open... That means Snape's already
got past Fluffy.

SFX: footsteps in hallway, door creaking, growls, dog

sniffing

HERMIONE
What's that at its feet?

RON
Looks like a harp, Snape must have
left it there.

HARRY
It must wake up the moment you stop
playing... Well here it goes...

SFX: flute playing

NARRATOR
With the first note Harry played,
Fluffy's eyes began to droop, and
the beast fell asleep.

SFX: growls cease, deep breaths, flute continuing

NARRATOR
Ron slipped out from underneath the
Invisibility Cloak and ran towards
the trapdoor, lifting it up.

SFX: cloak rustling, trapdoor opening

HERMIONE
What do you see down there?

RON
Uhhh... Nothing.

NARRATOR
Harry quickly handed the flute over
to Hermione and headed over to the
trap door. He began lowering himself
down, but gave Ron and Hermione one
last look.

SFX: (flute stops for a second), clothes rustling, flute

resumes

HARRY
If anything happens to me, go
straight to Dumbledore, okay?

RON
Right.

HARRY
See you in a minute.

NARRATOR
Harry hung by his fingertips at the
trap door, took a deep breath and
let go.

SFX: deep breath, air rushing, large thud, grunt

HARRY
(sounding far away)
It's okay! Jump, it's a soft
landing!

SFX: two large thuds, one after the other

RON
What is this stuff all over the
floor?

HARRY
I dunno, looks like a plant, I guess
it's here to break the fall.

RON
Lucky for us!

HERMIONE
LUCKY!? Look at you two!

NARRATOR
The plant had started to twist and
tie down Harry, Ron, and Hermione's
ankles, legs, and wrists.

SFX: whizzing, creaking, cracking

RON
AHHH! What the bloody hell is this?

HERMIONE
It's called Devil's Snare...

RON
(sarcastically)
Oh good, I'm glad you know what it's
called, a great help, really.
HERMIONE
Shut up! I'm thinking!

HARRY
(gasping for breath)
Well, can you hurry up?

SFX: Harry's heavy breathing

HERMIONE
We've got to light a fire! Oh no...
but there's no wood...

RON
HAVE YOU GONE MAD? ARE YOU A WITCH
OR NOT!?

HERMIONE
Right, right... INCENDIO!

SFX: clothes rustling, wand moving

NARRATOR
The Devil's Snare moved away from
the fire, retracting it's deathly
grip on the three.

SFX: creaking, cracking, whizzing

HARRY
This way...

SFX: footsteps down hallway, on stone, a soft rustling and

clinking sound is heard

RON
What's that, do you hear it?

HERMIONE
There's light ahead...

SFX: rustling, whizzing, clinking, gets louder

NARRATOR
The three turn a corner and reach
the end of the passageway. Before
them was a brilliantly lit chamber,
full of birds fluttering and
tumbling around the room.

RON
Do you think those things will...
attack us?
HARRY
Probably, if they all swarm in at
once they could be pretty vicious...
I'll run.

NARRATOR
Harry covers his face with his left
arm, the other flailing about in an
effort of defense. His muscles
tighten expecting to feel the sharp
beaks and claws tearing apart his
skin any second.... but nothing
happened. Harry reaches the door,
pulls the handle, but it's locked.

SFX: running footsteps on marble/stone, pulling handle,

clinking sound continues
RON
Oh great... Now what?!

HERMIONE
Hey wait, those aren't birds...
those are... keys!

HARRY
Hey, do you see those broomsticks!
We must have to catch the key to the
door like a snitch!

RON
Oh great! There are only hundreds of
keys...

HERMIONE
Well, we're looking for a big old
fashioned key, probably silver like
the handle.

NARRATOR
Each of them grabbed a broomstick
and kicked off into the air.

SFX: clinking sound continues, but slightly louder, pushing

off ground, broomsticks whizzing through the air, (near and
distant)

NARRATOR
The three struggle finding the right
key for a while, but Harry's Seeker
skills from Quidditch enable him to
catch the right one in a fair amount
of time.
HARRY
I got it!!

SFX: brooksticks whizzing slows, feet hitting ground, cheers

NARRATOR
Harry, Ron, and Hermione run to the
door, Harry slips the key into the
lock and turns, the door opens and
they step in.

SFX: running footsteps, keys jingling, key into lock and

turning, door creaking

NARRATOR
The three looked around at their new
surroundings - they were standing on
the edge of a giant chessboard.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione shivered
upon seeing the life size chessmen
with no faces.

HARRY
So... what do we do?

RON
We've got to play our way across the
board, as.... chessmen.
Now, don't be offended - none of you
are any good at chess.

HARRY AND HERMIONE

We're not offended!

HARRY
Just tell us what to do.

NARRATOR
Harry, Ron and Hermione mount the
black chess pieces, and the first
white piece moves.

SFX: clothes rustling, thumping, thudding as they get on the

chessmen, chess piece moves

RON
Okay Harry, move diagonally four
squares to the right.

SFX: chess piece being dragged

NARRATOR
The next white piece, a bishop
moves, taking out the first knight
by smashing him to the floor.

SFX: smashing, crashing, thudding

RON
Now Hermione, you take the bishop.

SFX: smashing, crashing, thudding

NARRATOR
The game went on with similar
violence. There were a few times
where Hermione and Harry were in
danger, but Ron quickly took action.

SFX: montage of smashing, thudding, chess pieces moving

RON
Okay, we're nearly there! Let me
think... Let me think...

NARRATOR
The white queen turned her blank
face towards Ron.

SFX: chess piece turning

RON
That's it - that's the only way...
I've got to be taken.

HARRY AND HERMIONE

NO!

RON
That's chess! You've got to make
some sacrifices! I'll make my move
and she'll take me - that leaves you
free to checkmate the king, Harry!

HARRY
But-

RON
Do you want to stop Snape or not?

NARRATOR
Ron's piece moved forward and the
Queen pounced. She struck Ron hard
around the head with her stone arm
and he crashed to the floor.

SFX: crashing, thudding, grunt, screaming

NARRATOR
Harry moved three spaces to the
left. The white king took off his
crown and threw it at Harry's feet.
They had won.

SFX: crown clashing on floor

NARRATOR
Harry and Hermione continued through
the next passage way

SFX: footsteps running, door opening

HERMIONE
What if he's....?

HARRY
He'll be allright.

HERMIONE
What do you think is next?

HARRY
I dunno, I guess we'll find out.

SFX: footsteps stop, door opens, fire erupts

NARRATOR
A huge purple fire envelops the
doorway. They were trapped. On the
floor, there were bottles and a
piece of paper lying next to it.

HERMIONE
Look!

HARRY
What does it say?

SFX: paper rustling

HERMIONE
Danger lies before you, while safety
lies behind, two of us will help
you, whichever you would find, One
among us seven will let you move
ahead, Another will transport the
drinker back instead, Two among our
number hold only nettle wine, Three
of us are killers, waiting hidden in
line. Choose unless you wish to stay
here for evermore, To help you in
your choice, we give you these clues
four: First, however slyly the
poison tries to hide, You will
always find some on nettle wine's
left side; Second different are
those who stand at either end, But
if you would move onwards, neither
is your friend; Third, as you see
clearly, all are different size,
Neither dwarf nor giant holds death
in their insides; Fourth the second
left and the second on the right,
Are twins once you taste them,
though different at first sight.

SFX: Hermione lets out a deep sigh

HERMIONE
This is logic... Everything we need
is here on this paper. Seven
bottles: three are poison; two are
wine; one will get us safely through
the black fire and one will get us
back through the purple.

HARRY
But which one do we drink?

There is a short pause as Hermione thinks.

HERMIONE
Okay... It's the smallest bottle,
that will get us through the black
fire - to the Stone.

HARRY
There's only enough for one. You
drink the one that will get you
through the purple fire. Get Ron and
find Dumbledore as fast as you can.
I'm no match for Snape.

HERMIONE
What if... You-Know-Who is with him?

HARRY
Well... I've been lucky once before
right?

HERMIONE
Oh Harry... Good luck.

HARRY
Good luck.
NARRATOR
Hermione drank her vial and walked
straight through the purple fire.
Harry drained the little bottle in
one gulp and walked forward.

SFX: footsteps, fire crackling and whooshing (for both Harry

and Hermione)

NARRATOR
Harry walked through the fire and
into another room. However, it was
not Snape waiting there. Nor was it
Voldemort.

SFX: footsteps

HARRY
You!?

PROFESSOR QUIRRELL
Yes Potter. It's me.

HARRY
Professor Quirrell? I thought it
was... Snape!

PROFESSOR QUIRRELL
I know who would ever suspect
p-p-poor st-stuttering P-Professor
Quirrell?
Now Potter, wait, I need to examine
this interesting mirror, the Mirror
of Erised.
This is the key to finding the
Stone.

NARRATOR
All Harry could think of was keeping
Quirrel from concentrating on the
mirror.

PROFESSOR QUIRRELL
I see the Stone, and I'm presenting
it to my master... but.... where is
it?

HARRY
But... Snape seems to hate me, I
thought it would be him...

PROFESSOR QUIRRELL
Oh, he does hate you, but he doesn't
want you dead...
Sometimes I find it hard to follow
my master's instructions, I am such
a weak wizard.

HARRY
He's... with you?

PROFESSOR
Oh, he's with me wherever I go... I
met him when I traveled around the
world. A foolish young man I was
then, full of ridiculous ideas about
good and evil.... Lord Voldemort
showed me how wrong I was. He showed
me that there is no such thing as
good or evil, only power.

NARRATOR
Quirrel's voice trailed away.
Harry's mind began to race. He
remembered the time he saw Quirrell
at Diagon Alley at the Leaky
Cauldron - he can't stop thinking
about stupid he was.

PROFESSOR QUIRRELL
Oh master! How do I use this mirror?

LORD VOLDEMORT
Use the boy... the boy...

PROFESSOR QUIRRELL
Come here Potter... Tell me what you
see in the mirror.

SFX: footsteps

NARRATOR
Harry knew he had to lie about what
he saw. Harry looked into the mirror
and saw his own reflection smiling
at him. It put its hand into its
pocket and pulled out the blood red
stone. It winked and put the stone
back into his real pocket - somehow
Harry had gotten the stone.

HARRY
I see myself shaking hands with
Dumbledore... I've won the House Cup
for Gryffindor!

LORD VOLDEMORT
He lies! He lies!
NARRATOR
Harry begins to walk away.

SFX: footsteps

PROFESSOR QUIRRELLL
Potter! Come back here!

LORD VOLDEMORT
Let me speak to him... face to
face...

NARRATOR
Professor Quirrell unwraps his
turbin and turns slowly. Where there
should have been a back to
Quirrell's head there was the most
terrible face Harry had ever seen -
chalk white, glaring red eyes, slits
for nostrils - it was like a snake.

SFX: clothes ruslting, weird breathing

LORD VOLDEMORT
Harry... Potter... Give me that
stone in your pocket. Give me the
stone - better save your life than
meet the same end as your parents.

HARRY
NEVER!

NARRATOR
Harry ran towards the flame door.

SFX: footsteps running

LORD VOLDEMORT
SEIZE HIM!

NARRATOR
Quirrell grabbed Harry's wrist and
at once a needle-sharp pain seared
across Harry's scar.

SFX: clothes rustling, feet shuffling

HARRY
AHHHH!

PROFESSOR QUIRRELL
UHH!

NARRATOR
Quirrell let go and the pain
lessened on Harry's scar. Harry
looked around wildly looking for
Quirrell, only to see him hunched
over in pain, looking at his
blistered fingers.

LORD VOLDEMORT
SEIZE HIM!

NARRATOR
Professor Quirrell lunged again at
Harry, knocking him clean off his
feet. Quirrell landed right on top
of him, with both hands around
Harry's neck, his scar nearly
bliding him with pain. However,
Quirrell face was scrunched up in
agony.

SFX: grunting, screaming, heavy breathing, feet shuffling,

clothes rustling

PROFESSOR QUIRRELL
Master! I cannot hold him, my hands
- my hands!

LORD VOLDEMORT
Then kill him!

NARRATOR
Professor Quirrel raised his wand to
perform the deadly curse, but Harry
reached his hand and grabbed
Quirrell's face.

SFX: grunting, clothes rustling, hitting, thudding

PROFESSOR QUIRRELL
AAAAARGHHHHHH!

NARRATOR
Harry jumped to his feet, catching
Quirrell by the arm and hung on as
tight as he could. Quirrell kept
trying to throw Harry off, the pain
in his scar building, and building,
he started to fall into blackness,
down... down... down...

SFX: running, grunting, heavy breathing, weird music

INT. HOSPITAL WING - THREE DAYS LATER - AFTERNOON

SFX: distant footsteps, clothes rustling, slight clinking

DUMBLEDORE
Good afternoon, Harry.

HARRY
(still coming to)
Professor! The stone! He's got the
stone, quick-

DUMBLEDORE
Calm yourself boy, Quirrell does not
have the stone.
What happened between you and
Professor Quirrell is a secret - so
naturally the whole school knows.
I arrived in time to take the stone
from you. The stone has since been
destroyed.

There is a short pause as Harry contemplates what has

happened.

HARRY
Well, sir, there are some things I'd
like to know about, the truth...

DUMBLEDORE
The truth is a beautiful and
terrible thing. I shall answer your
questions unless I have a very good
reason not to, in which case I beg
you'll forgive me. I shall not, of
course, lie.

HARRY
Well... Voldemort said that he only
killed my mother because she tried
to stop him from killing me. But why
would he want to kill me in the
first place?

DUMBLEDORE
Alas, the first thing you ask me, I
cannot tell you. Not today. But one
day, you will know. Put it from your
mind for now, Harry. When you are
older, when you are ready, you will
know.
