How to Build it!
STEP-BY-STEP 26" 13 3/4"

GETTING STARTED

1. The first thing to do is cut the pieces for the bookshelf as shown
in the Cutting Diagram. Take extra care to ensure the length of the
shelf, top, bottom, is the same for all.

BUILDING THE FACE FRAME
D 2. You’ll start by building the
30"
face frame like you see on the
left. Drill two pocket holes in the
ends of the three rails (Parts
‘D’ and ‘E’) using the Kreg Jig
settings as shown at right. The
location of the pocket holes 1/2
isn’t critical. 5/8

4. Now you’ll drill pocket holes in one of the side

pieces (Part ‘A’) as shown in the drawing. The key

is to locate the holes so they will be hidden by the
rails in the face frame just below the shelf.
B
5. Use the Kreg Right Angle Clamp or a bar clamp
to position the side on the face frame as you drive
the pocket hole screws. You want the outside edge
of the face frame and side (Part 'A') to be flush with
each other.

ADDING THE SHELVES

B
7. Attach the three shelves to the side piece as shown on the left.
Keep the top edge of the shelf flush with the top edge of the
horizontal rail as you drive the screws.

8. Set the other side piece (Part ‘A’) in position and fasten it to the face
B frame as before. Then you can fasten the shelves to this side, watching
to keep the shelf flush with the top edge of each rail as you go.

Adding Stretcher Rails and Top

9. There are two horizontal rails on the back side of

F the bookcase (Parts ‘F’). They help support the top
and bottom shelf and provide a place to secure the G

back panel you’ll add later. Secure the rails as shown
back side on the left so that they are inset 1⁄4" from the back
edge of the sides.

10. All that’s left is to make the top. To do this, cut the
three boards for the top to rough size. Arrange them
for the best appearance. On the underside of the 1/2
middle piece, drill pocket holes along the edges as 5/8

shown on the right. Start about 8" from each end and 7/8

Finishing Up

By building this bookcase, you've learned a lot of basic woodworking skills

that you can put to use in other projects. With these skills, you can build a
variety of bookcases. Make them taller or wider. Make several small ones
and stack them. Or experiment with different materials and finishes.
You're limited only by your imagination!
