The aim of this study is to find significance difference in terms of listening

comprehension in narrative text between the students who are taught by using comic
strips and those who are not taught by using comic strips, and also to find how the
students respond toward the use of comic strips in teaching comprehension at SMA
ULUL ALB@B Islamic Full Day School
This research is an experimental quantitative research. The subject of this
research is the tenth grade students of SMA ULUL ALB@B Islamic Full Day School
at class X-1 and X-2. The data of this research is the students’ scores of listening
comprehension of narrative text. The data collection technique is by pre test and post
test and also a questionnaire. The data analysis technique uses t-test. The SPSS
Statistics 17.0 is used to calculate the t-test to find the difference between students’
pre test and post test scores of experimental and control group.
From the distribution of t – table with the level of significance 5%, it was
found that the result of t – value (2.766) was higher than the t – table (2.028) with the
degrees of freedom of 36. This result showed that the difference between pretest and
posttest scores of the experimental and the control group was significant. It means
that there was significant difference between the students who are taught by using
comic strips in narrative text (experimental group) and those who are not taught by
using comic strips in narrative text (control group). Thus, the hypothesis, which says
that there is a significance difference in terms of listening comprehension between
the students who are taught by using comic strips and those who are not taught by
using comic strips, was accepted. It could be said that using comic strips in teaching
listening comprehension had significant influence to improve the students’ listening
comprehension. Based on the result of the questionnaire, it can be concluded that
most of the students responded possitively toward comic strips. It was proven by
the percentage of the students answers. The students thought that the use of comic
strips in teaching listening comprehension was interesting, not too long and not too
troublesome, helped them in listening section, eased them to answer the questions
and to understand the text, made them like listening more than before, and made them
feel relax and enthusiastic. Based on the students responses, it was proven that comic
strips was effective to be implemented in teaching listening comprehension.
