Sub: Feedback report of IUCEE course on “Materials and Nanotechnology” C-29

from 12July to 16 July 2010 organised by Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute
of Technology, Surat (INDIA)
IUCEE workshop was organized by NIT-Surat which was co-ordinated by Dr.
(Ms.)M.Mukhopadhay from chemical department.

Venue: computer center seminar hall (good facilities like each participant is having PC
connected with internet, audio-video presentation)

Very nice arrangement of lodging and boarding in PG hostel. Lunch and dinner specially
arranged in AC guest house.

IUCEE workshop details are attached with this report.

Session expert: Dr.Sanjeev Khanna (University of Missouri college of Engineering)

Problem based learning (PBL) method which was discussed with introduction then Modules 1 to
7 are conducted with very good interaction with all participants. Details of the module are given
at the end.

New topic which was introduced by Dr. Khanna - Mechanics-Materials-Design (MMD)

We were not able to listen Material selection software CES EDU pack which was not working.

Nan mechanical testing I and II was the only topic which was delivered by the expert because
the topic of the workshop was related to Nanotechnology. I applied for the above workshop to
listen more about NANOTECHNOLOGY but in the whole workshop but only two topics were
covered which I was not expecting.

All participants are asked to give presentation on materials (materials science) curriculum in
their respective university/colleges. I gave my presentation which consists of our ‘JOYFUL
LEARNING’ model (GP/PD) subjects as well as our scheme of examination. The presentation
was appreciated by US expert Dr.khanna and he said I don’t want to comment on your syllabus
as well as new model because everything in the curriculum is nicely arranged. In our syllabus of
Materials science and Metallurgy, all units are included which was also appreciated by all
faculty participants.

Comment:

i) But overall course content should be covered in three days instead of five days.
ii) The course topic - only 10% covered.
iii) Coordination from our institute which was not properly told to the participant
because my name was not included in their list.(kindly inform to the participant
about the commitment form as well as password to see IUCEE website and course
content as well)
iv) Rating for this course- 5 marks out of 10

Thanking You,

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Rahul L Khandagale
