Chapter III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter discusses the research locale, unit of analysis/respondents, research design,

procedures/data collection, data analysis and statistical treatment.

Research Locale

This study dealt with determining the administrative culture, practices, and management

strategies of the school managers in the City Schools Division of Lucena and Tayabas. The

research was conducted in the two (2) districts in the City Schools Division of Tayabas, namely

Tayabas East and West and four (4)

districts in Lucena City, viz. Lucena North, South, East and West districts.

Research Design

This study made use of the descriptive type of research employing survey questionnaire for the

variables in this study. The descriptive method allows the researcher to obtain facts about the

existing conditions and detect significant relationships between current phenomena, which

generate and make available

information needed by the researcher (Estolas, 2012).

Population and Sampling

This study focused on the teachers to disclose administrative culture and practices and

management strategies of school administrators. The frequency distribution of the respondents is

shown below:
TABLE here…..

A total of 100 teachers in each of the divisions for a total of 200 who evaluated their school

heads’ administrative culture, practices and management strategies were randomly selected as

the respondents of the study. They were chosen by the researcher using fishbowl technique of

drawing lots to represent each of the four school districts. This is to ensure that there are equal

number of respondents to represent each of the districts of the school divisions, hence may

account to reliable data being generated.

Research Instrumentation

The researcher used self–made questionnaire which was administered to the elementary school

teachers of the City Schools Division of Lucena and Tayabas. The questionnaire composed of

items based on areas of administrative culture and practices and management strategies of the

school managers. The questionnaire tackled administrative culture as to universalism,

particularism,

ascription, achievement, classical and political bureaucracy, authoritarian, and participatory; and

the administrative practices involving collaborative problem solving and decision making,

involving parent and community, high expectations for the students, developing a safe and

orderly environment, and curriculum and instructional practices. Likewise, variables on the

management strategies along variables on planning, organizing, directing, and controlling were

investigated Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher requested the approval and permit for conducting the
study from the Schools Division Superintendents in the City Schools Division in

Lucena and Tayabas. Upon approval, the survey questionnaire was personally

distributed and administered by the researcher to the selected elementary school

teachers-respondents. Further, the researcher asked the respondents to answer

every question sincerely and honestly assuring them that their answers will be

treated with confidentiality. After retrieval of the questionnaires, it was tabulated,

analyzed, and interpreted through statistical measurements.

Statistical Treatment

The data were tallied, analyzed and interpreted using the following:

Weighted mean was utilized to determine the administrative culture and

practices, and management strategies. The formula is:

Wm = 4f +3f + 2f + 1f

Where:

WM = weighted mean

f = frequency

N = number of respondents

To find out any significant relationship between administrative culture and

practices and management strategies of school administrators, Pearson r was

used. The formula is:

r = NΣxy – ΣxΣy_______

[NΣx2 – (Σx)2

][NΣy2 – (Σy)2

Where:

N = number of paired observation

x = weighted means of administrative culture and practices

y = weighted means of management strategies

r = correlation coefficient
