Upcoming events in Canada with regards to Burma

March 2, 2011 - Ottawa

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, the following events are
taking placing in Canada with the focus on Burma: Please also note that a
video message of Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon in support of
a UN ‘commission of inquiry’ into ‘crimes against humanity’ and ‘war crimes’
in Burma will be also showed in some events listed below.

March 3: Reflecting on the International Tribunal on Crimes against


Women of Burma
Organized by the Centre for Refugee Studies and the York Centre for Asian
Research

• Professor Susan Henders, Director, York Centre for Asian Research,

• Sheila Htoo, testified at the International Tribunal on Crime Against
Women in Burma in New York;
• Julaine Eberhard, coordinated the Burma women's tribunal through the
Nobel Women's Initiative;

March 8: The heroic women of Burma


Organized by Women College Hospital

Time: Tuesday, March 8, 2011, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m


Location: Metro-Central YMCA, 20 Grosvenor St., Toronto

A special screening of ‘This is My Witness’, a new film on the women of


Burma by Ottawa filmmakers Jane Gurr and Ed Kucerak. The film will be
followed by a panel discussion:

• Julaine Eberhard, PhD, LLB – Co-ordinator of the International Tribunal


on Crimes Against Women of Burma;
• Janice Du Mont, EdD – Scientist, Women’s College Research Institute;
• Johanna MacDonald, LLB – Chair of Toronto Working Group, Canadian
Centre for International Justice;
• Sheila MacDonald, RN, MN – Provincial Co-ordinator of the Ontario
Sexual Assault
and Domestic Violence Treatment Centres;
• Pah Wah – A Burmese woman, living in Toronto, who supported a
testifier in the International Tribunal on Crimes Against Women of
Burma;

March 9: Honor the Women of Burma this International Women’s


Day!
Organized by Nobel Women’s Initiative

Time: Wednesday, March 9, 7:00pm to 9:00 pm


Location: Ottawa Public Library, Main Branch, 120 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa
Admission: free
