What is the current release of OUM and how long has it been in use?
The current release is 5.0.0. It is the seventh generation of the method released by
Oracle’s Global Methods team. The first version of OUM was initially released for
use by Oracle Consulting Services in January 2006. This first version was based
directly on Oracle’s J2EE Custom Development Method that was originally
published in May 2003. OUM 4.1, a refined version of the method, was released in
April 2006. OUM 4.2.0, with expanded support for Service-Oriented Architecture

Are there any White Papers available that address OUM 5.0.0 issues?
Yes. There are several white papers available that address different aspects of
OUM. These white papers include:
• Oracle’s Full Lifecycle Method for Developing and Implementing
Technology-based Business Solutions - This white paper covers the main
components and key features of OUM.
• Application Integration Architecture (AIA): Pre-Built Service-Oriented
Architecture (SOA) - This white paper discusses the challenges of SOA
deployment and how these challenges can be mitigated with pre-built SOA
infrastructure and applications from Oracle.
• Business Rules in Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) to
Business Components (BC) - This white paper describes a method for
modeling and implementing business rules in ADF Business Components
(ADF BC), which is part of Oracle’s Application Development Framework
(Oracle ADF).
• Getting Started with Activity Modeling - This white paper discusses how
activity diagrams can be used and how to create them using JDeveloper
10.1.2.
• Getting Started with UML Class Modeling - This white paper discusses the
modeling elements that can be used in a UML class model and describes how
class models can be developed iteratively.
• Getting Started with Unit-testing - This white paper discusses how unit-
testing can give you insight in the real progress of your project and prevent
bottlenecks in your developers staff.

Should I use the OUM 4.4.0 Estimating Model to estimate an OUM 5.0.0
project?
The current version of the OUM Estimating Model, 4.4.0, supports Technology-
based development and implementation projects based on the Technology Full
Lifecycle View within OUM 5.0.0.
Estimating support is not yet available for projects utilizing either the Application
Implementation View or the Business Intelligence and Analytics Custom
Development View within OUM 5.0.0.
When will the OUM Estimating Model provide support for Business
Intelligence and Analytics (BIA) projects?
The OUM 4.5.0 Estimating Model, providing support for BIA, Custom Software,
Identify Management, and Integration, is currently undergoing validation and
testing. Publication is planned for July 2008.
When will the OUM Estimating Model provide support for Application
Implementation projects?
Support for estimating Application Implementation projects will be added to the
OUM Estimating Model one product suite at a time, in order to accommodate
differences in the effort required to implement each legacy product line. At the
present time, the Siebel CRM product line is expected to be the first product suite
supported. Oracle’s Global Methods team will solicit input from senior
management to determine priorities for subsequent development cycles. The
OUM 5.0.0 Estimating Model, providing support for Siebel CRM Application
Implementations, is planned for September/October 2008.
What size of Client would benefit from the use of OUM on a project?
OUM is scalable and can meet the needs of a small, single-site project, as well as
the needs of a large, multi-site project.
What are the Hardware and Software Requirements for running OUM?
The hardware and software requirements for OUM include:
• Minimum of 1 GHz processor speed
• 55 MB of disk space
• 520 MB RAM minimum
• Windows 2000, XP, NT 4.0
• Microsoft Office 2000 or later
• Microsoft Project 98 or later (Optional)
• Microsoft Visio 5.0.0 or later (Optional)
• Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 or later
• Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 or later or Netscape 7.0 or later
What is the difference between OUM's iterative approach and AIM for
Business Flow's (ABF) conference room pilot (CRP1, CRP2, CRP3)
approach?
AIM for Business Flows (ABF) utilized iterative conference room pilots (CRPs) to
initially map the client's business to the standard Oracle Business Flows and to
refine/tailor the business solution to the specific requirements of the project.
However, most of the other elements of the ABF approach were more waterfall
than interative. OUM is a true iterative approach. Virtually any and all activities
and tasks are performed in an iterative fashion based on an iteration plan developed
by the project manager. While any OUM task or activity can be iterated as
necessary to meet project objectives, keep in mind is that you should do only what
is necessary to meet the project objectives - nothing more. Make the method serve
you - not the other way around.
One significant similarity between OUM's Application Implementation View and
ABF is that both methods use the Conference Room Pilot (CRP) technique to
refine and iteratively converge on a business solution best suited to the client's
requirements. In OUM’s Application Implementation View, Conference Room
Pilots are referred to as Functional Prototypes.
How does OUM map to Oracle’s Data Warehouse Method Fast Track
(DWM FT)?
OUM’s Business Intelligence and Analytics Custom Development View provides
support for projects that involve custom development in support of Business
Intelligence and Analytics implementations. This view provides specific discipline
guidance in the development of custom components required to extract, transform
and load data.
OUM’s Business Intelligence and Analytics Custom Development View page
provides access to the following:
• Mapping to Data Warehouse Method Fast Track (DWM FT) 3.0.2
