Remember: adjectives are describing words. They tell us more about a noun (the name of a person, place, or thing).
Adjective + to infinitive…
=> infinitives are the basic form of a verb
=> go is an infinitive
=> going, goes, went are not infinitives because the basic form has been changed.
Adjectives + -ing…
=> the -ing form of a verb is the continuous form
=> it is also used for the gerund form => this is where the verb functions as a noun
=> the -ing form always uses the verb 'to be' before it.
=>Some examples:
It's been nice getting to know you.
It's great knowing you are coming too.
It was fascinating talking to you.
It's interesting listening to him speak.
It's emotional watching her dance.
CLAUSE SENTENCES:
=> clauses are parts of sentences that contain a verb.
For example,
When the sun shines, we always go to the beach => has two clauses.
Firstly, 'when the sun shines'. Secondly, 'we always go to the beach'.
For example:
It was so hot that she didn't want to go outside.
=> We know from the first half here that it was a hot day.
=> The second half gives more information about the day and about what she wanted.
She is really caring which makes all the children love her.
The beach is perfect when the sun is out.
It is amazing what a cup of coffee can do for your mood.
Look out!
I like to going …
But do use a form of the verb 'to be' =>
He was happy going to that school.
We're enjoying driving our new hire car.
Don't forget!
Skyscrapers are very high buildings, and here are some things that are interesting to know about skyscrapers.
Firstly, it's funny finding out that the term 'skyscrapers' used to be used to talk about ships.
Secondly, a skyscraper is a description given to any building that appears to scrape the sky because it's so tall.
Thirdly, it is believed that the first skyscraper was a building which was built in 1885, in the USA, and was 138 feet high,
and had 10 storeys! Compare that to a modern skyscraper, like the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, which is 2,716 feet high, and
has 160 storeys!
