SoundCloud to Success

Audioglider’s new EP Released by Exceptional Records:

Tapping into the tremendous potential of

the world’s fastest growing online audio platform

(London, 15 February, 2011) Coming Up For Air is the first release from Audioglider’s
debut album, due for release on Exceptional on 25th April. The four- track down tempo EP
features the original version of Coming Up For Air as well as three outstanding remixes
from the winners of the Audioglider Remix Contest, jointly put together by German
netlabel group FOEM, eclectic West London label Exceptional and the fast growing Berlin-
based online audio platform SoundCloud. The EP will be released on the 21 st March.

The release showcases Audioglider’s unique flair for layering organic and electronic samples into a
synthesised urban ambient composition with extraordinary detail.
Coming Up For Air is a hypnotic beat-driven track with sweet shimmering melodies that spiral ever
higher before landing you softly in a bed of twinkling notes. Fans of John Metcalf, John Hendicott,
Brian Eno and Tom Middleton’s Lifetracks will be delighted. "The individual sounds are a mixture of
organic and electronic samples which I edit and fx," explains Audioglider’s Roberto Sodano. "The
main melody is actually a guitar sample which has been reversed to give a backward feel." The
creator of '80’s inspired ethereal downtempo electronica says that he approaches the creative
process without much of an agenda. "I drop in fragments of melodies all the way through my music,
with the hook/main melody only becoming apparent from the amalgamation of micro melodies."
The result is off-the-wall harmonies that smoothly slide into moments of quiet elation, conjuring
images of wide, bright sonic landscapes. Coming Up For Air is a dreamy dancefloor mix guaranteed
to also win the hearts of home listeners. An audio journey to that golden time when the sun is
sinking beyond the horizon and the party has just begun.

Coming Up For Air Remixes

According to Audioglider, the SoundCloud Remix competition is a success story that underlines the
artistic potential ready and waiting to be tapped into on an online audio community like
SoundCloud. Instead of merely relying on his own library and local contacts Audioglider used
SoundCloud to connect and collaborate with other producer/DJs from around the world. The
competition attracted such a high standard of entries that it generated not just one winner but a
whole album full of winning tracks.

The three winning remix tracks featured on the EP offer distinctly new interpretations from Miami
basedDJ/producer Mike Mucci, Australian Tony Steven’s Kultrun and Italian Alessio Arcangeli’s
Save.As. Mucci kicks off with subtle vocal textures, airy chords and hypnotic melodies that ride on a
thermal of life affirming tribal sound and rhythm. Kultrun takes the track on an underwater journey
with smooth and gentle rhythmic percussion, mysterious Morse Code bleeps and environmental
sounds that bubble up from the depths. In contrast, Save As picks up the pace with a nu jazz twist
and Bossa Nova influenced river of sound that seriously grooves without betraying the track’s
dreamlike personality. Same track, new journey, different forks in the road.

Audioglider chose FOEM, together with SoundCloud, to run the original remix contest for Coming Up
For Air. “The FOEM members are passionate about music and we believed they could bring fresh
perspectives to the original beyond standard dancefloor fodder,” says Audioglider. “The quality
standard and originality of the remixes was exceptional, and so this EP, and the forthcoming album
were born.“ All three of the winners here are also avid SoundCloud members.

Background

Audioglider has been writing recording, and honing his craft for years. A teenager in the eighties,
with dodgy haircuts to match, he saw Kraftwerk supported by the Human League , and straightaway
fell in love with electronic music. Audioglider’s first break came with two exclusive tracks on Nick
Warren’s Global Underground 30 Paris, to much critical acclaim, quickly followed by two EPs,
Halcyon, and Slight Return, and remixes on Glenn Morrison’s digital label Morrison Recordings. More
experimental output has been released on acclaimed German netlabel FOEM/Crèma, with the EPs,
Sunspots and Circadian Express. An Audioglider reworking of Introspective Directive’s ‘Nightfall’, was
released on iLabel’s The Chillout Lounge Vol 3, in mid 2009, compiled by Chill Maestro, and ex Fragile
State stalwart, Ben Mynott, who has been caning Audioglider tunes on his regular Fluidnation Radio
shows on Chill Radio, and Fire FM, as well as at the Big Chill. He is currently preparing more tracks
for release and exploring other creative outlets for his music.
