MODULE 9 APPLICATION –Asynchronous Session.

1. Interview online a small business in the locality. Draw and ask them the flow and
movement of their goods and services from the source to the customers.

Figure 1: Flow and Movement of Ms. Gina’s Goods from source to the customers.
The illustration Ms. Gina has given to us upon our request to interview her is an
illustration of the flow of her Aice Ice Cream from the Manufacturer or from the Factory towards
her Customers. It started from The Main Factory in Indonesia, next is the after the goods are being
manufactured, they deliver it to their branch in Malaysia for Import and Distribution. The
distribution was brought forth to the main branch here in the Philippines in Pasig City, next it is
transported to either General Santos City and Davao City, the next is towards the Aice Ice Cream
branch here in Koronadal City. All the stock here in Koronadal city are being distributed from the
City Distributer and when Ms. Gina requires to restock her products, she pickups here ice cream
from the Koronadal Branch and towards her store and lastly, she sells the Aice cream towards her
Customers and/or Consumers either through walk-ins from her physical store or thru delivery.

2. Ask at least three concerns related to supply chain and suggest ways to
manage their concerns

 THE AVAILABILITY OF THE PRODUCT.

 Based on this concert, the owner had a concern on the availability because
her products are easily depleted due to the high demand of their product. We would
suggest that she would have an alternative product for the customers so that they would
have an option whether the product they desire is unavailable,
 SCHEDULE OF DELIVERY AND TIMELINESS FOR RESTOCKING OF
PRODUCT
 This concern is because there are times that the schedule of delivery is
delayed due to various reasons but mainly because the delivery came from General
Santos and/or Davao City and there are also instances of abrupt lockdown due to the
pandemic and I would suggest that she should increase her inventory of those products
that is really saleable so that she will have allowance product left when the schedule of
delivery is near and encase of delay in delivery.
 INABILITY TO MAINTAIN QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT
 This concern arises when her customers wishes their purchase to be
delivered to their own homes and since her product is Ice cream and it tends to easily
liquify and there is nothing we can really suggest here but rather provide an adequate
tools and materials to slow the liquification process of the product.
 FAILURE TO TRACE AND CONTROL INVENTORY
 Monitoring as well as Controlling inventories is not as simple as it is
because there are various products to keep an eye in the inventory of her business. Not to
mention that her product can easily be damaged due to liquification and also her
inventory is also movable as it goes inside(restocking) and outside(selling) at a
considerable and acceptable pace. This would be a complicated concern to be solved if
not the presence of the fast and innovative technology of today therefore we would like to
suggest that in order to lessen or much better eradicate this concern we suggest that
Modern inventory management solutions such as various software can most likely to help
you manage with inventory related concerns.

MODULE 9 ASSESSMENT: Supply Chain Management

Name of Establishment/Company: Gina’s Aice Ice Cream

Explain why each of these is critical for a successful supply chain operation:
a. Integrated technology
- One of the business concerns of the owner is failure to trace and control inventory where
keeping up with her inventory given the variety of product she offers. Integrated technology
explains that with such concerns in a business, there is a need for integration of technology for a
successful supply chain operation to present data that can improve strategic planning as to the
inventory of the business and help businesses to control costs obtained by the business as Ice
Cream products tend to be easily liquefied and can pose additional cost for the owner. Integrated
technology is needed for businesses to quickly respond to concerns that are arising in the
business especially with the need of the owner to monitor and control her inventory to improve
supply chain operations with the flow and level of inventory she is keeping with the use of
technology.

b. Information sharing
- Information sharing is vital in a successful supply chain operation because it is through sharing
if information among the parties involved in the supply chain operation can increase the
efficiency of supply chain management. This is integral for businesses especially for businesses
like Gina’s Aice Ice Cream as she has concerns with the timeliness of the delivery of the
products she is selling and the availability of product she is about to sell. She often experiences
delay on the delivery of her product due to various factors and without proper communication to
her supplier. Another concern is the availability of products that she would be selling where she
experiences products phasing out without her knowledge which only supports the need for
Information Sharing among these parties to successfully have a supply chain operation.

c. Trust among trading partners

- Trust among trading partners is very integral for a bushiness to have a successful supply chain
operation. Trust needs both the ends of the thread to ensure the integrity of supply chain in the
operation. As the owner is open for delivering her products to places where her buyers ask her to
deliver, trust between these parties is necessary. As bogus buyers in the market are present, that
poses the concern for trust but the seller needs to trust her customers to pay the products that she
delivers. Same goes to with the buyers where they need to trust the seller to deliver their ordered
products on time with quality and the agreed price.

d. Real-time information availability

- Real-time information availability is necessary for a successful supply chain management as
real-time information will enable the business to recognize ways to improve the efficiency of the
products she is selling with its inconsistent availability. One of her concerns was the availability
of the products she is offering due to uninformed phasing out of such products that real-time
information availability plays an important role. Without real-time information, the owner is now
unable to perform a satisfactory performance that can negatively impact her customers.

e. Event management capability

- Event management capability is also important in achieving a successful supply chain
operation as it allows solution to unprecedented events from happening that may derail supply
chain operation. One good way to explain is the concern of the interviewee that she experiences
delay of product delivery which affects her bushiness and supply chain operation. With event
management capacity, it explains the need for a quick solution and adaptability to such
unplanned events that may happen during the operation of the business which can negatively
affect both the seller and the customer.
f. Procurement
- Ultimately, the role of procurement in supply chain operation is integral as it helps the business
maximize profit. Many steps are involved in a supply chain and one of the most important steps
is the procurement process. Procurement allow distribution of product to customers and supply
chain operation from happening. In application of the information that we have gathered from
the interview, procurement is important to ensure a smooth and efficient supply chain operation.
The business often suffers from the delay of delivery which affects the supply chain operation.
This is where procurement plays an integral part. Procurement of products to maintain a
sufficient level of inventory to continue the supply chain operation smoothly and efficiently is
important as it anchors customer expectation and satisfaction.

g. Risk Management
- Risk Management if important in a successful supply chain operation as it is lessening possible
losses and costs that the business may incur in its operation. The interviewee has also faced
many risks that posed the possibility of a loss especially that the products that she is selling are
melted easily with heat which is a risk anchored to selling ice cream. In risk management, such
risks of obtaining loss or additional cost is controlled through identification of the risks and
strategizing ways to manage or even avoid such risks from occurring. With the identification of
such risks, the business will be able to prioritize managing risks that may pose greater damage to
the business and develop strategies to address other risks.
