Introduction
Investigation Begins
A Suggestive Fact
An Explanation
I did not hear from Holmes for a few days. The next
note I received from him was an invitation to his residence.
When I arrived, I found Holmes, as we first met,
luxuriously leaning back in his arm-chair beside the fire-
place and smoking his pipe. He invited me to sit down.
After a cup of tea, I once again thanked him for accepting
my offer to look into the case. Holmes remarked:
“Simple!” I ejaculated.
