System Operation
Introduction
This section includes basic operating information for the EC300 Control System.
† Introduction
† Display Features
† Station Transfer
† Engine Synchronization
Note: A single lever Control Head will have only one lever.
The red Alarm Indicator LED light(s) on the Digital Control Head
blink when an error has occurred. These will blink a code that
can be used for diagnosing a problem.
The red Alarm Indicator LED light(s) on the Analog Control Head
will blink when the Control will no longer engage the
transmission.. This is referred to as
“Controller Neutral”.

System Operation Twin Disc,

Both the Port and Starboard Levers can be calibrated at the same time.
Place the Lever(s) into the full forward position. Depress the
Station Select Button for approximately 6 seconds. The Neutral
LED(s) will flash very fast, indicating acceptance of the setting.
The LED(s) will stop flashing when the Station Select Button is
released.
Engine Start
3. When the engine is warm, return the Lever(s) to the Neutral Detent
Position.
Engine Shutdown
1. At the selected Control Station, place the Lever in the Neutral Detent
Position.
2. Place the ignition switch for the engine in the Off position
in order to de- energize the EC300 Control System.

Move the Lever toward the bow of the boat to the Ahead Detent
Position in order to select the ahead vessel direction. At this
position, the transmission shifts into the forward or ahead gear.
The remaining Lever travel after the Ahead Detent Position
controls the engine throttle.
Move the Lever toward the stern of the boat to the Astern Detent
Position in order to select the reverse vessel direction. At this
position, the transmission shifts into the reverse or astern gear.
The remaining Lever travel after the Astern Detent Position
controls the engine throttle.
Direction Reversal
CAUTION
When the Single Lever Sync Feature is
cancelled, for any reason, each Control will
revert to receiving throttle commands from its
own Lever. If the position of the designated
Lever is significantly different from the
position of the control’s own Lever, this will
cause a change in vessel speed.

Display Features
The lower line of the Display will show CRUISE, CRUISE S, EXPRES,
EXPRES S, or TROLL. This indicates the Mode in which the
Control is operating, and whether it is operating in a
Synchronized condition or not.
The data that can be selected is PROP SPD on the top line, and
XXXX RPM on the bottom line; ENGN SPD on the top line, and
XXXX RPM on the bottom line; OIL TMP on the top line, and XXX
o
C or XXX oF on the bottom line; and OIL PRESS on the top line
with XXX psi or kpa on the bottom line. The units are selectable
at the time of configuration.

Station Transfer
2. Place the Levers in the desired position at the Target Control Head.
4. Observe that the red Station Select Indicator LED light(s) next to the
Station Select Button illuminates.
Engine Synchronization
Synchronizing Engines
3. To slightly change speeds, move the master Lever ensuring that the
7 1/2 degree synchronization window is maintained.
Each flash code is three digits. Each digit ranges from 2 to 7. The
following example shows timing for the diagnostic code “231” which
indicates “Oil Temperature High” as defined in the following table on
the following pages.
150 mSec
4700 mSec
1250 mSec
2650 mSec
Most flashing diagnostic codes are shown only in neutral by flashing the
Neutral LED. A maximum of one diagnostic code at a time is shown and
it is always the code for the first fault detected.
Some severe failure conditions put the EC300 into Controller Neutral, a
condition in which the Neutral LED is off and Forward or Reverse
clutches can not be engaged. In Controller Neutral, the red Station
Active LED flashes to indicate the first failure detected which is most
likely the cause of the Controller Neutral condition.
