Important Events as recorded by Jim Moncarr

The great event in my life was when I was baptised into the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day-Saints. From that time things began to get better for me and my father. I
married Sister Greens daughter, Rachel when I was about 24. Later my father (a
widower)married Mrs. Green. I was married to Rachel Green in Old Blee Episcopal
Church of England in Grimsby...When we had three children...When I received the
Aaronic Priesthood and later advanced to Melchezidek Priesthood...When after
working in the Church Committee for M I A and doing general work such as Street
meetings, tracking, etc. My father joined the Church as well. He died at the age of 46.
He was ordained an Elder a few months before he died. It was handed down verbally
that my great grandfather was French. He and his wife were shipwrecked with two
children, the son, daughter and mother were saved. Great Grandfather drowned. The
children were brought up by someone who kept a bakery in Bariing , Essex,
England. My grandfather served an apprenticeship for the fishing Smaek Industry.
After he served his apprenticeship he visited London and saw his sister there. She
was a school teacher. He only saw her a day or so and never saw her again. I talked
with him when I was about 25 years old , but could not get any satisfactory replies.
He laughed and said he was born at sea. I came to America . We have been to the
Salt Lake temple and had Albert and James , our sons , sealed to us after we were
sealed for time and eternity. We also rejoice in having many of the Moncarr's work
done for them in the Idaho Temple, Salt Lake Temple, and the Logan Temple. Rachel
has been sealed to her parents, Thomas and Betsey Green. I have been sealed to my
parents, James Samuel William Moncarr and Mary Ann Rushby. I have had the work
done for my grandparents, the Moncarrs and the Rushbys.

I've been to sing with the Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir in the Tabernacle. Three solos,
7 duets, 7 or 8 male quartets. I sang with two quartets in the Tabernacle which won
first prize in the Grand National Estecliffod. I was in a male chorus and mixed
chorus. I sang at the State House and in New Stake House. I have spoken to
President Heber J. Grant, who was very nice to me and spoke of me as a singer in the
church. He gave me several books and I sang with him once in England and in the
Sudio of the McCune School of Music. In October 1911 I visited the White House with
about 240 members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir of Salt Lake City. We met Pres.
Taft and we sang to him. He entertained us and we ate ice cream and strawberry
short-cake with him. Pres. Taft impressed me as being a very fine man. When on the
trip with the LDS Choir I visited the Washington Monument, and went to the top and
looked thruough windows--a peculiar sensation you feel--as if it was about to fall--this
is how I felt. I wrote the lyrics to a song we call STARS OF THE MORNING

My father, James Samuel William Moncarr told his step-daughter, our name, he
believed, was originally French. A sister - in - law of my Father, from Grimsby,
Lincolnshire, England, by married name Edith Turner, saw me in Salt Lake City 15
years ago (it is now 1953) and told me my name should be Garr. My father had me
christened at Grimsby Episcopal Church by the name of JIM MONCARR. He having to
sign all his names in full when sending consignments of fish by railroad to different
towns decided he would make it easy for e by naming me JIM. When I write to
England, they rep0ly by saying my name is not James. But on advice , friends said
"call yourself James", so I do perhaps its more dignified. My grandfather apprenticed
by the mane of James Moncarr to the fishing industry.

I have been to the Hill Cummorah. I have been to the home where the angel visited
Joseph Smith. I have been in the Kirtland Temple and sang with the Tabernacle Choir
there. I have been in the Sacred Grove. I have seen some graves of the dead
Saints. I have seen where Saints crossed the Missouri River. I have been to Jackson
County and Independence Missouri. I have talked to the son of the Prophet, Joseph
Smith Jr. He is the President of the Reorganized Church and was an old man then. I
have talked with the President of the Hedricite Church, etc.
 "STARS" OF THE MORNING
 
STARS OF THE MORNING

Stars of morning shout for joy

Sing redemptions mystery

Holy! Holy! Holy! Cry

And praise the Lamb.

--

Parents to the children turn

Children from your parents learn

All united heart and hand

Will praise the Lamb.

--

Temple workers for the dead

Now prepare for Christ our Head

Save the dead to you, they crey-

And praise the Lamb.

--

Be baptized by proxy here

For the dead give hope and cheer

Help them from prison house

And praise the Lamb.

--

At the resurrection morn

With white robes, all will adorn

Glad Hosannas they will cry

Unto the Lamb.
