Introduction to the documentation 1-

Documentation for the OPTera Long Haul 1600 covers the following:
• Repeater network element
• Amplifier network element
You can order the OPTera Long Haul 1600 library as a full library in print
(NTCA65EK) and on CD-ROM (Helmsman version [NTCA64EK] and
interactive version [NTCA64JK]). The CD-ROM versions follow the same
structure as the printed version.

For a complete list of ordering codes for OPTera Long Haul 1600
documentation, see Ordering Guide, NTY311KK. You can also order
individual guides separately in print.

Using the guides and NTPs

Guides and Nortel Networks technical publications (NTP) are used during the
six stages of deploying an OPTera Long Haul 1600 system:

Interoperability with OPTera Long Haul 1600

OPTera Long Haul 1600 complies with Telcordia specifications. Within these
standards, scope for variation exists in some details of the implementation. For
example, the Telcordia standards do not specify what is correct behavior when
a facility is taken out of service. Also, signaling limitations in the protocols
prevent the exchange of some aspects of configuration data across the
interface; the operator must ensure that both ends of the interface are
configured to be compatible. The operator must also be cautious when taking
facilities out of service since the subtending equipment can no longer operate
normally.
