Reflective Statement
1. Fully state the standard in bold text. Then write a paragraph explaining your knowledge and
understanding of the standard—put the standard into your own words.
This standard is about I as a teacher will be reflective throughout my educational career. I will
evaluate my decisions and actions and how they affect my students, parents, fellow teachers, as
well as my administrators. I will use the resources that I have available for reflection—for
example, observers or students test results, to evaluate my teaching to ensure that I am providing
students with the best possible education. I will understand that reflection is essential to growth
and improvement. I will also use classroom observation, information about students, knowledge
about teaching, as well as research to assist in consistent reflection, evaluation, and correction of
2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the
standard.
This artifact is a reflection upon my experience in pre-student teaching. I taught two days/week
in a 6th grade social studies class, and this reflection was a cumulative reflection upon my
advisor, as well as my students, I was able to reflect upon my instructional strategies to better my
future career. I reflected upon my assessment and management techniques and how those could
experiences. I am able to reflect upon the mistakes that I made previously and avoid those same
mistakes currently. I can learn from the advice of my previous colleagues and the teaching of
my co-operating teacher to glean from his teaching strategies and better my own. By committing
myself to being a lifelong learner, I am able to better develop my teaching strategies and be open
3. A If the artifact has been used in your practice, reflect on how your teaching will change in
the future to further meet the standard.
B If the artifact has not been used in your practice, i.e., a class assignment, reflect upon how
your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.
This artifact was used last semester to guide my experience this semester and my future as a
teacher. I was reflecting upon my time in 6th grade and learning form the things that I did well as
well as the things that I did poorly. I learned the importance of reflection during this assignment,
and I think it will continue to impact my instruction in the future as well. By being a reflective
instructor, I will have more humility in the classroom to learn from colleagues as well as my
students. This leaves more room for professional development and growth. I think that I will
further meet this standard by seeking professional development and seeking to get the advice of
older instructors in my field. By doing this, I will be widening my view of education and how I
4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and Learn in a
Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.
By being reflective, I will learn what works and what doesn’t with diverse student populations.
As I learn what is beneficial and what is not, in terms of behavioral strategies, differentiation

strategies, management techniques, etc. I will be able to have a more effective approach from
the beginning. I think that in having a diverse group of learners, I will quickly observe that there
is never one way to do things, and if I continue to be reflective, I will recognize quickly what is
working and what is not so that I can alter my instruction to better meet the needs of my diverse
