PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | March 7, 2011

TWEET.MEET.GIVE IN NEWARK with... Project Re-Direct!!!

Mayor Cory Booker, Twestival Newark, and the Newark, NJ community unite to celebrate
Education, Charity, Social Media and charity Project Re-Direct.

Newark, NJ, 3/7/2011 - Twestival® (or Twitter Festival) uses social media for social good by
connecting communities offline on a single day to highlight a great cause and have a fun
event. Twestival is the largest global grassroots social media fundraising initiative to date. Since 2009,
volunteers have raised close to $1.2 million for 137 nonprofits. All local events are organized 100% by
volunteers and 100% of all ticket sales and donations go direct to projects. On March 24, at the
Coffee Cave, 45 Halsey Street Newark, NJ, the 3rd Twestival Newark is going down!!!!

Twestival was born out of the idea that if cities were able to collaborate on an international scale, but
work from a local level, it could have a spectacular impact. Over 200 international cities from Buenos
Aires to Bangalore, Seattle to Seoul and Hong Kong to Honolulu have participated in Twestival.
Twestival also sets out to identify key skills of volunteers and match these with the needs of the cause;
particularly communications strategy, tech integration and social media training. This Twestival Local
takes place in cities around the world : March 24, 2011.

What is Twestival Newark?

Twestival Newark was adapted by Lindsey C. Holmes, owner of LCH Business SM & Tech, a Social
Media Marketing and Mobile App Development Firm based in Newark. She is also a proud resident of
Newark. Realizing the soundboard that Social Media allows, and during especially tumultuous times
in the city, Twestival Newark seemed like a simple and effective way to disparage stereotypes caused
by mass media. When asked about the impact that Twestival Newark will have on the emergent city,
Ms. Holmes states “Social media is unlike Broadcast Media. Though both are extremely influential
and necessary, social media gives the people a voice, and allows for a truth that is much too often
devoid in the news. Newark’s people need to be heard. Social media will give us this outlet.”
The 2011 Twestival Newark Charity: Project Re-Direct

Project Re-Direct believes ‘that a more appropriate response to juvenile delinquency and crime in
urban communities is not the building of more prisons and juvenile delinquency facilities, but
economic development, job opportunities for teenagers, and adults is pivotal in the fight against
poverty, hopelessness, desperation and crime. [They] believe that a Holistic and Comprehensive
family support system which provides services to prevent the abuse/neglect of children is crucial to
the development of safer communities locally, and nationwide. [They] believe that all children will be
valued. Violence is unacceptable and prevention of child abuse [should] and will be valued and
practiced by the community.

Project Re-Direct’s mission statement speaks to child abuse prevention, juvenile delinquency
prevention and to facilitate the restoration of the family. Their ultimate vision: "To Save the Lives of
Children and Re-Direct them towards Healthy Lifestyles, improve their Quality of Life while
promoting safer communities.”

Twestival Newark is proud to support Project Re-Direct in their quest to speak for those that can't
speak for themselves: Newark's children!
