Collocation in language can generally be described from two dominating theoretical: (a) a

frequency‐based approach focusing on the habitual co‐occurrence of two or more words in


natural language use and the identification of such co‐occurrence on statistical grounds; and (b)
a phraseological approach focusing on collocations as word combinations governed by
semantic aspects, such as idiomaticity and restricted substitutability.
