Jamie Matera
l THROUGHOUT JAMIE MATERA’S CAREER providing dental laboratory
services to the dental profession, he has always believed in giving
back to an industry that has treated him so well. That is the reason
why he initially became involved in the Dental Industry Association
of Canada (DIAC).
“What I value about DIAC is that it provides a multi-dimen-
sional viewpoint from a cooperative contribution of manufactures,
t
distributors, laboratory technicians, and service provider representa-
tives—committed to the highest standards of service to dental pro-
to fessionals in Canada,” says Matera, president of Central Dental
Laboratories, a full service dental laboratory in Toronto. He is also
serving as president of DIAC.
“I truly enjoy what I do, and appreciate the ingenuity of the
technicians I work with, and the renewed expectation of the dentists
d of we serve and their patients.”
Technology is fundamentally changing the way suppliers to the
dental industry manufacture and deliver their services, and it has also
created more challenges and opportunities. “That is exciting,” Matera
says.
“As technologists, we will be called upon to redefine ourselves
in the values we can bring to a dental practice by becoming the
source of knowledge transfer in the understanding, evaluation, and
integration of these emerging technologies,” Matera told DENTAL
CHRONICLE, which recently partnered with DIAC to produce four
dental meeting guides in 2011.
.P. “I see DENTAL CHRONICLE as a highly respected partner in the
success of DIAC and getting our message and purpose across
Canada. It is vital that everyone participating in the dental profession
be made aware of the issues that affect how we will do business in
the future. Of equal importance, is the understanding that DIAC
provides the forum for such discussion,” he said.

Dianne Grassie
DURING THE PAST FIVE YEARS, Dianne Grassie has been responsible
for managing the Dental Industry Association of Canada’s (DIAC)
convention portfolio.
“My main responsibility is to work with the convention organiz-
ers to help give our DIAC members a better experience at dental
conventions,” said Grassie, region manager—Canada for Premier
Dental Products, and a DIAC director.
“Additionally, I also focus my efforts on ensuring that DIAC has
a presence and is visible at dental conventions, which allows our
members to see that we are actually visible to the dental community.”
Public exposure at dental conventions not only benefits current
DIAC members, but also gives potential new members an opportuni-
ty to find out about what DIAC does and the benefits of becoming a
member, Grassie told DENTAL CHRONICLE.
In order to become a member of DIAC, each company must
have Canadian presence and be in compliance with all Canadian laws
regarding importing and distributing medical drugs and devices.
“Being a member of DIAC ensures that customers know that
you are a company of high standards and in compliance with
Canadian laws,” she said.
“Customers looking to purchase dental products and devices
can rest assured that anything we promote is legal and legitimate
because our members are responsible, cooperative citizens and com-
panies.”
Recently, DIAC partnered with DENTAL CHRONICLE to produce
four dental meeting guides in 2011.
“We are excited about this partnership because it will give our
members an exclusive vehicle to reach out to potential customers,”
Grassie said.
This partnership will also provide DIAC members with an
exclusive opportunity for formal advertising exposure, she said.
