LESSON 2: Introduction to Entrepreneurship
I. Background
What is entrepreneurship?
In Business Dictionary
Entrepreneurship is the capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to
make a profit. In short starting a new business.
In Economics
It is a combination of both land, labor, natural resources and capital that can produce profit.
Entrepreneurial spirit is characterized by:
➢ Innovation
➢ Risk-taking
Is an essential part of a nation’s ability to succeed in an ever changing and increasingly competitive global marketplace.
Entrepreneurial mindset
Refers as to a specific state of mind which orientates human conduct towards entrepreneurial activities and outcomes.
Individuals with entrepreneurial mindsets are often drawn to opportunities, innovation and new value creation.
Entrepreneurial Skills
A, Marketing Skills. It is the ability to introduce your product and business to the customers.
B. Sales Skills. It is the ability to convert prospect into paying customers.
C. Finance Skills. It is the ability to strategies and use the finances properly to create more income than losses.
D. Planning Skills. It is the ability to plan and set goals. Creating effective strategies to move forward to the goals.
E. Basic Management Skills. It is the ability to calculate the pros and cons of the business and managing it through providing suitable and
effective solutions.

F. Leadership Skills. It is the ability to lead people effectively. Inspiring tem to do better and bringing out the best that and individual has.
G. Communication Skills. It is the ability to interact with different kind of people and transmitting ideas effectively and clearly.
10 Qualities of an Entrepreneur
1. Opportunity Seeking – Entrepreneurs seek opportunities and turn it into business. Always look in every situation as an opportunity and
how to transform it into something that is relevance to the world.
2. Persistence – the ability to push and push toward the finish line, even if the finish line seems comically out of reach.
3. Commitment to work-contract. Entrepreneurs stand and committed of what they said.
4. Demand Efficiency and Quality – One key for a successful entrepreneur is satisfying the clients need and demand which will achieve
through efficient service and quality products. It is their blood to give the “BEST” and achieve “EXCELLENCE”.
5. Risk Taking – One capacity of an entrepreneur is to know when to take the opportunity and calculate the risk to avoid the possibility of
killing the ventures because of too much risk taking.
6. Goal Setting – successful entrepreneurs set and achieve goals accordingly and stretch their selves to the widest possibility they can be.
7. Information Seeking – an entrepreneur never stopped on seeking valuable information tha contributes to its success and further
innovations.
8. Systematic Planning and Monitoring – one key to achieve goals is the systematic planning and monitoring. Without definite plan and
regular monitoring of plans, outcome goals can be confusing and less quality.
9. Persuasion and Networking – entrepreneur must know “When” and “whom” they should pursue potential loyal clients. They build better
relationship and synergy ideas and existing resources.
10. Self-confidence – is a key part for the success of a business . It is difference between having faith in yourself and feeling scared out of
your wits.
Instructions:
➢ Students can use from any of the following materials (namely: personalized dream book, coloring materials, pictures, magazine,
glue and pencil)for this activity.
➢ List down dreams you want to achieve, three(3) to five(5) years from now. It is advised to categorize these into four(4): Family,
Personal, Career and Spiritual.
➢ Cut or draw your dreams and paste it to your dream book. Enumerate specific details of your dreams including the color, size,
date, location who is/are with you when you reach that dreams.
➢ Make a one sentence/paragraph cheer/ slogan for yourself. This will help encourage yourself most specially in challenging times.
(eg.”Be the BEST Emilie! You can do it”).

also be unique in the global marketplace.

4. This process began with the advancement in communication amongst the countries and improvement in transportation.

5. Successful entrepreneurs are focused on making their businesses work. They do this by eliminating any hindrances or
distractions to their goals.
6. Many companies are formed because an entrepreneur knows that they can do a job better than another. They need to win at the
sports they play and need to win at the businesses that they create.
7. One facet of creativity is being able to make connections between seemingly unrelated events or situations. Entrepreneurs often
come up with solutions which are the synthesis of other items.
8. The successful entrepreneur will often be the first person to arrive at the office and the last one to leave.
9. The entrepreneur does not ask questions about whether they can succeed or whether they are worthy of success.
10. Entrepreneurs realize that every event and situation is a business opportunity. Ideas are constantly being generated about
workflows and efficiency, people skills and potential new businesses.
