Dr. Álvaro Huerta is an Associate


Professor in Urban & Region
Planning and Ethnic & Women’s
Studies at California State
Polytechnic University, Pomona. He’s
the author of the award-winning
book, Defending Latina/o Immigrant
Communities: The Xenophobic Era of
Trump and Beyond (2019). He is also
the author of Reframing the Latino
immigration Debate: Towards a
Humanistic Paradigm published by
San Diego State University Press in
2013. As a scholar-activist, he holds a
Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning
from UC Berkeley, along with an
M.A. in Urban Planning and a B.A.
in History from UCLA.
