In 2020, Latino voter turnout almost reached 17 million, a 31% increase
over 2016 and the biggest in history. Latinos are the third largest bloc
of registered voters in the American electorate, but it’s not monolithic,
which makes it very hard for some experts, candidates, and major party
leaders to understand Latino voting behavior. Why don’t Mexicans and
Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Venezuelans, and Nicaraguans vote the same
way, they ask? Not surprisingly, Latinos are rightfully credited for
victories in some instances and unfairly criticized for losses in others.
An estimated 80% of the Latino vote is concentrated in 13 states, of
which President Biden won 12, with a Latino vote margin of 2-1. He won
nine of those states with a 3-1 Latino vote margin. Even in Florida,
Latinos favored Biden by a 2-1 margin, but Trump won the state. Why?
Well, in Miami – Dade County, a small majority of Latinos voted for
Trump, which kept the state red and gave rise to the questionable notion
that Latino support for Democrats was slipping!
This panel of experts will take a deep dive into the numbers and provide
a data-driven better understanding of the Latino vote impact in the 2020
election. Join us!
