Dutton/Dunwich is called “the heart of the Talbot
settlement” in reference to its rich history. Stop in
at the Backus-Page House museum or visit one of
their many events to experience the living history
of Colonel Talbot’s original settlement. The sights
and sounds of today’s Dutton/Dunwich also offer
the visitor much to enjoy. Enjoy a spectacular view
from bluffs high above Lake Erie, an enormous BACKUS-PAGE HOUSE
field of lavender, farmgate markets brimming
with colourful produce, or sunset behind the lone

agricultural base, Southwold’s small hamlets and
beautiful countryside make it a great locale for an

at area fruit orchards, maple syrup bushes and
other on-farm markets. Rhubarb fans return each
year to the Rosy Rhubarb Festival, a celebration of
community spirit and everything rhubarb. Enjoy
the many species of birds as you stroll on the
‘War to Roses’ walking trail at the Fingal Wildlife
Management Area, symbolically named in
reference to the site’s past as a World War II
training facility. The site is especially popular with
amateur astronomers, who find that its isolation
from light pollution provides the perfect dark sky.

ST. THOMAS
St. Thomas has claimed the title of Railway Capital
PINAFORE PARK
of Canada, based upon its history as a North
American railway hub. This history is kept alive
largely through the efforts of two organizations—
the Elgin County Railway Museum and the North
America Railway Hall of Fame. St. Thomas is also
known for a famous railway tragedy—Jumbo, Photo courtesy of Catharine Spratley
the star of the Barnum & Bailey Circus, was struck
and killed by a train there in 1885. A life-sized
Jumbo monument was unveiled on the centennial RAILWAY CIT Y BREWING CO.
anniversary of the event and continues to greet
visitors entering the city’s west end. Echoes of the
past can be found in many architectural gems in
St. Thomas, including the Elgin County Court-
house, St. Thomas City Hall, Old St. Thomas Church
and numerous private homes, many of which are
found in the courthouse area. On a more modern
note, St. Thomas offers a lively community theatre,
impressive downtown murals and several beauti-
ful parks. It also boasts its own microbrewery,
the thriving Saturday Horton Farmers’ Market
(seasonal) and first class recreational facilities like EXPERIENCE
the St. Thomas Timken Community Centre and the
Douglas J. Tarry Sports Complex.

Diverse Attractions on Ontario’s South Shore
The journey is the adventure. Imagine the cool, pine-scented refreshment of a
Muskoka woodland, or the exotic flora and wildlife of a Carolinian forest. It’s all within
easy driving distance in Malahide. Travelling along Glencolin Line you will enter an
Old Order Amish community where the residents live and work without use
of modern conveniences. Visitors are welcomed and farm-gate shopping is available.
On Hacienda Road you will encounter the Aylmer Wildlife Centre, a stopping point
for migrating Tundra Swans. Imperial Road is home to a fully operational apiary where
you can explore a bee education centre. On Rogers Road a quaint tearoom and
pottery studio serves visitors in a peaceful oasis of tall pines surrounding a scenic
pond. Imperial Road ends at Port Bruce, the popular Lake Erie boating and fishing
destination on the south shore. A non-stop journey from north to south Malahide
takes under an hour but will leave a timeless memory of a diversity of cultures mixed
with a harmonious blend of man-made and natural attractions.
