You don¶t need to install a program to change the file type from FAT32 to NTFS.
1. Press the Start button.
2. Go to Run.
3. Type in "cmd" without the quotes, press OK.
4. Go to your C:/ folder, by typing in cd\, (or "cd.."just as long till you have reached C:/). Likewise, type in "cd c:\" works, as well.
5. Go to your "My Computer" icon, and see the name of the letter that stands in from of the drive you want to convert!
6. Back in cmd, Press in "CONVERT X: /FS:NTFS" (without the quotes). The X is for the letter your system drive or external drive
name. (see Step 5)
7. On the question µconvert lost chains top files Y/N? µPress µyµand continue.
8. Cmd will now check the file system and the rest. If your cmd finishes, your file system is converted to NTFS. You can close
down cmd. (CHECK: go to µMy Computer¶ and right click on the drive, select µProperties¶ to see what kind of file system it has).
9. If cmd says: µX: was not converted to NFTS, the conversion failed etc, you must follow the next steps!
10. Type in "chkdsk X: /f", where X is the letter of your drive. Wait a while to finish.
11. You¶ll be asked to µconvert lost chains top files Y/N?µ press µyµ and continue. Wait for it to finish.
12. After this, cmd will say that converting was successful. Check it by going to your computer, and single click on the drive to see

work.

8. You can lock your XP workstation with two clicks of the mouse. Create a new shortcut on your desktop using a right mouse click,
and enter µrundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation¶ in the location field. Give the shortcut a name you like. That¶s it, just
double click on it and your computer will be locked. And if that¶s not easy enough, Windows key + L will do the same.
9. Windows XP hides some system software you might want to remove, such as Windows Messenger, but you can tickle it and
make it disgorge everything. Using Notepad or Edit, edit the text file /windows/inf/sysoc.inf, search for the word µhide¶ and
remove it. You can then go to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Windows Components and
there will be your prey, exposed and vulnerable.
10. For those skilled in the art of DOS batch files, XP has a number of interesting new commands. These include µ& ! ¶ and
µ& !!¶ for creating and watching system events, µ !.¶ for monitoring performance of various subsystems, and
¶ 2¶ for handling scheduled tasks. As usual, typing the command name followed by /? will give a list of options.
11. XP has IP version 6 support ² the next generation of IP. Unfortunately this is more than your ISP has, so you can only
experiment with this on your LAN. Type µipv6 install¶ into Run« (It¶s OK, it won¶t ruin your existing network setup) and then
µ&BF)¶ at the command line to find out more. If you don¶t know what IPv6 is, don¶t worry and don¶t bother.
12. You can at last get rid of tasks on the computer from the command line by using µ 22F¶ and the task number, or just
µ 2¶ and the process number. Find that out by typing µtasklist¶, which will also tell you a lot about what¶s going on in your
system.
13. XP will treat Zip files like folders, which is nice if you¶ve got a fast machine. On slower machines, you can make XP leave zip
files well alone by typing µregsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll¶ at the command line. If you change your mind later, you can put things back as
they were by typing µregsvr32 zipfldr.dll¶.
14. XP has ClearType ² Microsoft¶s anti-aliasing font display technology ² but doesn¶t have it enabled by default. To enable
ClearType, right click on the desktop, select Properties, Appearance, Effects, select ClearType from the second drop-down menu
and enable the selection. Expect best results on laptop displays. If you want to use ClearType on the Welcome login screen as
well, set the registry entry HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/Control Panel/Desktop/FontSmoothingType to 2.
15. You can use Remote Assistance to help a friend who¶s using network address translation (NAT) on a home network, but not
automatically. Get your pal to email you a Remote Assistance invitation and edit the file. Under the RCTICKET attribute will be
a NAT IP address, like 192.168.1.10. Replace this with your chum¶s real IP address ² they can find this out by going to
www.whatismyip.com, and get them to make sure that they¶ve got port 3389 open on their firewall and forwarded to the errant
computer.
16. You can run a program as a different user without logging out and back in again. Right click the icon, select Run As« and enter
the user name and password you want to use. This only applies for that run. The trick is particularly useful if you need to have
administrative permissions to install a program, which many require. Note that you can have some fun by running programs
multiple times on the same system as different users, but this can have unforeseen effects.
17. Windows XP can be very insistent about you checking for auto updates, registering a Passport, using Windows Messenger and so
on. After a while, the nagging goes away, but if you feel you might slip the bonds of sanity before that point, run , go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/Advanced and create a DWORD value
called %/ with a value of 0.
18. You can start up without needing to enter a user name or password. Select Run« from the start menu and type µ !
$!!*ƍ, which will open the user accounts application. On the Users tab, clear the box for Users Must Enter A User
Name And Password To Use This Computer, and click on OK. An Automatic Log On dialog box will appear; enter the user name
and password for the account you want to use.
19. Internet Explorer 6 will automatically delete temporary files, but only if you tell it to. Start the browser, select Tools / Internet
Options« and Advanced, go down to the Security area and check the box to Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when
browser is closed.
20. XP comes with a free Network Activity Light, just in case you can¶t see the LEDs twinkle on your network card. Right click on
My Network Places on the desktop, then select Properties. Right click on the description for your LAN or dial-up connection,
select Properties, then check the Show icon in notification area when connected box. You¶ll now see a tiny network icon on the
right of your task bar that glimmers nicely during network traffic.
21. The Start Menu can be leisurely when it decides to appear, but you can speed things along by changing the registry entry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop/MenuShowDelay from the default 400 to something a little snappier. Like 0.
22. You can rename loads of files at once in Windows Explorer. Highlight a set of files in a window, then right click on one and
rename it. All the other files will be renamed to that name, with individual numbers in brackets to distinguish them. Also, in a
folder you can arrange icons in alphabetized groups by View, Arrange Icon By« Show In Groups.
23. Windows Media Player will display the cover art for albums as it plays the tracks ² if it found the picture on the Internet when
you copied the tracks from the CD. If it didn¶t, or if you have lots of pre-WMP music files, you can put your own copy of the
cover art in the same directory as the tracks. Just call it folder.jpg andWindows Media Player will pick it up and display it.

A hidden functionality in Windows allows you to right click on a file, select Copy To Folder or Move To Folder, and the move to box will
pop up and let you choose a location to either copy or move the file or folder to.
Here's the quick registry hack to get this working. As usual, back up your registry just in case. You will want to browse down to this key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers.Once you are at that key, right click and choose the New
Key option:
:*
Now you will double-click on the (Default) value and enter the following: {C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}.Click OK and
continue. If you want to enable Move To, you will repeat the same steps, except creating a new key named Move To, and using this value:
{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}.
:8
Now when you right click on a file or folder, you should see the following options:

Add Copy To / Move To on Windows Vista Right-Click Menu : Get the following zip file & run the registry files. You can choose to use
the copy to, move to, or both.

You can create a text file named !, and insert this text into it:

Double click on that file, and the text will be entered into the registry, and you'll have the same right click command prompt.

Windows XP may be one of the more stable and developed operating systems. But there are many irritating aspects in Windows XP.
Windows has a really stupid popup system, which pops up for every unnecessary thing imaginable. For example, there is a popup to warn
that disk space is low on the system drive (usually C:\). Also, there is a popup for alerting you that a new program installed. There is an
easy registry hack to get rid of all these popup.
i) Open up the registry editor - go to Run, type regedit and click OK.
ii) Click File > Export, choose a location and click save. Then, proceed to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Right click on the right-hand pane, make New> DWORD Value and name it EnableBallonTips. Set the value to 0 to disable ballontips,
and set it back to 1 to enable balloontips. This hack disables most balloontips. In order to eliminate all popup, some more work is required.
In each of the following locations, change the values to 0 to disable balloontips.
Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced\
1. Change the value of FolderContentsInfoTip to 0
Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced\
1. Change the value of ShowInfoTip to 0.
Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\tips\Show
1. Change the value of Show to 0
If anything goes wrong, restore the registry file that you had edited before and settings will be restored

The time may come that you'll need to reinstall your Windows XP. It could happen. Maybe you'll add a new motherboard or hard drive.
Maybe you'll get constant errors and problems that just won't go away. Or perhaps you're a neat freak who wants to rid yourself of clutter
and start fresh with a clean operating system. If you do reinstall Windows XP, then you'll need to re-activate it too. See, the first time you
activated XP it created a file called " %" that lives in the
D "** folder. By creating a backup of this file on disk, you
can simply put it back into the folder after reinstalling XP and avoid the whole re-activation hassle. Here's how...
:B
i) Go to My Computer then select your Hard Drive (usually drive C). Go to the
D "** folder and scroll way down
until you find the % file.
ii) Right-click and choose "
" then either Floppy Drive (make sure you have a disk in) or CD-R/RW.
iii) When you reinstall Windows XP you'll come to the activation screen²decline to activate and let the install finish.
iv) Restart your computer in Safe Mode (keep hitting F8 at start-up then when the Advanced Boot Options menu appears arrow down
to Safe Mode).
v) Find your way back to the
D "** folder. It's a good idea to rename the %file you're replacing just in case
you run into problems, so call it something like "wpa.nothing".
vi) Get the backup disk and copy the old wpa.dbl file back to the
D "**folder and reboot.
There you go²XP is up and running again.

. Your wpa.dbl file might NOT work on another computer.

This trick has only been tested in Windows XP. Suppose you want to lock the folder lucky in d: which has the path D:\lucky. In the same
drive create a text file and type
ren lucky lucky.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
Now save this text file as 2 %
create another text file and type in it
ren lucky.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} lucky
Now save this text file as 2 %
Now you can see 2 batch files lock and key. Press lock and the folder lucky will change to control panel and you cannot view its contents.
Press key and you will get back your original folder.

cG 9C 54 3-:

For example in a path c:\1, type the following in the notepad
attrib "path of the folder goes here" +r +h +s
to show the folder again replace all the A!AA with >!>N and save it as batch file.
The folder is hidden and it cannot be accessed untill one knows the correct folder name.

I've seen so many users to right click and refreshing the desktop. So what exactly is "Refreshing the desktop".
Initially i thought that refreshing anything will boost up my PC.. Some of my friends throw some jargon about RAM and told me that "If
you want your PC to work uninterrupted and speedy just keep on clicking refresh" and many of us keep doing it without actually know
what it do? Actually refreshing has nothing to do with boosting the PC. It just updates the desktop. Update How??
Window has this special messages and one of them is WM_PAINT. When you click on refresh, the O.S just send WM_PAINT message to
all the application to re-draw their window so that any of the pending work get reflected.
A very good example is that when you copy some stuff (movie file, text file etc) and paste to some folder, the positioning of that stuff is
not specific to the folder setting of that particular folder and then when you click refresh, it adjust automatically.

Laptops nowadays come with Serial ATA controllers and Hard-Disks, and good old Windows XP just cannot µsee¶ them as valid storage
devices. The BIOS in many of them, doesn¶t even offer the option to run in µCompatibility mode¶ anymore. The downside is that you
cannot do a re-install of Windows yourself, without having to resort to using a Floppy Disk to load SATA drivers during setup.
Here is a solution:

c; Visit your Laptop manufacturer¶s website, and determine the model number of the SATA interface on the motherboard. For
reference, this would be something like Intel ICH9 SATA RAID Controller.

*; Search on Google using the model number of your SATA interface as the keyword, and find the driver section of the SATA
Interface manufacturer¶s website. Download the drivers as a ZIP fi le from (for instance) support.intel.com and extract the archive
(or if you receive an EXE file, extract it at the command line with: p !" # $%&'u ().

*; Download and install nLite from http://nliteos.com/. This utility will modify your Windows XP installer CD to include the SATA
drivers. You might need to install the .NET Framework 2.0 and restart your machine.

8; Open nLite, and select the WinXP installation source. Click on µ‰
u¶, and navigate to your Windows XP install CD. (It must
be inserted in your CD drive). Then, another file selection dialog immediately opens asking you for the location in which to write
the image. Select any folder on your hard drive. Please note, you must have at least 1GB of free space on your hard drive. It will
then proceed to copy your entire Windows XP installer CD onto your hard drive.

@; Once it completes the copy process, press the µNext >>¶ button, and then skip the pre-install options screen by pressing it again.
Now you can select which portions of the installation image you wish to modify. Select µBootable Image¶, and µAdd Drivers¶.
Press µNext>>¶ again.

B; With these options selected, the first screen is the µAdd Drivers¶ screen. Press the µInsert¶ button at the bottom, and browse to the
folder on your Desktop where you downloaded your SATA drivers in Step 2. In the next dialog, make sure you select µText Mode
Drivers¶. You might have to select this option twice consecutively.

E; Press µNext >>¶ again, and you¶ll be prompted to choose how you want your image generated. nLite will even burn a CD for you.
Just pop in a blank CD into your CD burner and select µBurn CD¶ from the drop-down menu in the upper left. Then press the
µBurn¶ button.

<; You¶re almost done! Restart the computer with the freshly burned CD in the drive. Enter the BIOS and make sure the computer is
set to boot from the CD drive. Then restart, press any key, when it asks you to µPress any key to boot from CD¶, and then install
Windows XP normally.
