My name is Richard Soto, Surgical nurse and 1966 Vietnam Veterano, I am also the

founder of the Chicano Research Center de Stockton, Califas. I am writing because I

read that you are sending much of your private collection to Sonora, Mexico. When I
returned to the US in 1968, I became a member of the Chicano Movement and began to
purchase everything I could find about us and our primos in Mexico. From 1968 to 2016
I accumulated a considerably large collection of books, including every edition of
Occupied America and your others writings as they come out. I am even starting a
binder of your loose-leaf articles. In 2016 I opened the Chicano Research Center in
Barrio Chivo on E. Main St. in Stockton and put my collection out for the community to
borrow. In 2021 I purchased a three-story building at 415 E. Main St. to create a
Library, Chicano Museum, and an Archival room. In addition to books, we have LP'S,
Corridos and Cancioneros, DVD'S, Journals from el movimiento, and anything else we
can find. I am trying to identify and complete sets of Chicano Magazines, ie, La Raza,
Con Safos, and others. My question to you and other La Red readers is if you have any
magazines, newspapers, books, and are willing to deposit them at the Chicano
Research Center. I paid cash for the building, I am fixing it with volunteer community
support and it is in my living trust to remain a community research center even after my
death.
