State of Connecticut

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT 06106-1591

Honorable Dannel P. Malloy

Executive Chambers
State Capitol, Room 202
Hartford, CT 06106 March 9, 2011

Dear Governor Malloy:

Watertown is the proud home to many manufacturing companies which have been in town for decades.
Watertown residents and business owners are extremely proud of their community's rich manufacturing history.

We write to you today because we are extremely concerned about a provision in your proposed budget that would
put the future of Watertown’s manufacturing businesses in jeopardy.

Your proposal to eliminate the state's Manufacturing Machinery and Equipment tax exemption program will
result in local tax increases in Watertown and hurt our ongoing efforts to retain and grow local manufacturing
jobs.

As a result of your proposal, the estimated cost to Watertown would be $678,144. This proposal
disproportionately affects Watertown due to our town's emphasis on manufacturing. Watertown taxpayers and
businesses will suffer as a result.

We are grateful that the Office of Policy and Management is reviewing ways to mitigate this impact and would
like to thank you for your commitment to make municipalities like Watertown whole.

We agree that there are sacrifices to be made by all in order to get our financial house in order. However, we
firmly believe that this proposed cut would hurt our manufacturing community substantially.

Watertown - and the State of Connecticut - must remain open for business. We will continue to work with you to
make this a reality.

Sincerely,

Rob Kane Sean Williams
