Back to Back L/C Facilities:

Back to Back L/C is a type of import L/C either in inland or in abroad, which open against
lien on valid export L/C. International transfer of goods are made through the Letter of Credit
which is issued by the foreign bank at the request of importers in favour of exporters. Such
export L/Cs are enrouted through the Local banks by the foreign banks who have the
correspondent relationship.

146
When a bank receives an LC from importer’s banks it is treated as an export L/C. The bank
then advises the LC to its concerned client and extends its cooperation, so that the client can
execute the export order without facing any hindrance. The exporter collects raw materials
through BB L/C opened by the bank. Exporter also receives packing credit facilities to meet
up their current expenses. Thus a bank helps the exporter to execute the order and earn
foreign currency. Export performance of sample banks is furnished below -
