The environmental protection through standards

The contemporary social-economical development is closely related to

globalization phenomenon of world economy, that makes many of the processes of

economic life affect each other. If until recently the Earth's renewable natural resources

were sufficient for the humanity's needs , today as a result of the development of all

activity branches, the necessity of material and energy for the production of goods has

increased considerably, and the intense exploitation of the natural resources

emphasize more obvious , an ecological imbalance. As a result of the technical

development processes and the use of toxic fuels, are discharged into the atmosphere

a significant quantity of nitrogen oxides, carbon oxides, salts and metal oxides, which in

their cause causes harmful effects on the environment and directly or indirectly , on

humans.

A forest or a lake, for example, each one forming an ecosystem which is

interrelated and is readopted continuously looking for a certain balance. The

environment appears as a multi-dimensional reality that includes not only the natural

environment (air, oceans, seas, lakes, soil, etc..),but also the human's activities and

creations, it occupied a double position: as the environmental component and of

consumer or the beneficiary of the environment. Through the accelerating pace of

development, based on the consumption of the non-renewable energy resources(coal,

oil, natural gases, etc..) reached in some industrialized countries to a higher level of

welfare and the consequences as the result being serious polluting the environment

globally

Throughout the production activity is aimed not only the rational use of provided

resources by nature, but also the correlation of the activity of the territory and the

localities systematization with the measures of protection of the natural factors.

At present it is indispensable the development of the new technologies of

production less polluting and the equipping the technological installations and the

means of transportation generating by the pollutants agents with the devices that

prevent the harmful effects on the environment.

Currently, the companies from the European Union countries (and those who

have commercial relations with such companies) make serious efforts for

implementation of some eco-management/eco-marketing systems and the introduction

of these tools into the new domains of activity and product groups and services .

Such systems are a series of standards in the field of the environmental

management that are unanimous recognized as being the ISO14000 series. This series

of standards addresses to the following aspects of the environmental management:

• Environmental Management Systems. Requirements and user guide - ISO 14001

• Environmental Management Systems. Guidelines referring on principles, systems and

technical application – ISO14004

• Environmental Management Systems. Guide for environmental

auditing - ISO 14010 - ISO 14015

• Environmental Management Systems. Environmental labels

and declarations - ISO 14020 - ISO 14024

• Environmental Management Systems. The evaluation of environmental performance

Performance Assessment - ISO 14031

• Environmental Management Systems. Life Cycle

Assessment - ISO 14040 - ISO14043 etc.

The ISO 14000 series of standards was developed by the International

Organization for Standardization (IOS) in order to determine

the primary requirements for Environmental Management Systems.

The 14,000 serie 's goal is :

• to notify objective the aspects referring to the environment and their impact on

oneself.

• to specify the need of the policies implementation and the environmental

principles by the enterprises;

• to promote ideas that relate to the ecology and the ways of their

implementation;

• to recommend systems and environmental management programs, specifying

the way of their implementation , etc.

This system, ISO 14000 is now implemented by many companies in the world. It

specifies the requirements for an environmental management system to enable to an

organization to form a policy and objectives, taking into account the legislative

requirements and information about the significant environmental impacts.

The National Institute of Standardization and Metrology, as the National

Standardization Body (ONS) holds standards that determine the conditions of security

and protection of the environment and offers you the solutions and the possibility to

implement the environmental systems within the framework of your organization.

The environment represents an essential element of human existence and it

represent the results of combination of some natural elements, such as soil, water,

climate, etc with the created elements as a result of human activity. All this interact and

influence the conditions of existence and the future development possibilities of the

entire society.

In conclusion, it requires that the environment quality requires an assurance and

a corresponding protection . In this respect, it is imposed the keeping and the quality
growth of the environment, reducing the negative effects as a results of human activity

and pollution in general.
