It is a new dawn at the SSS. The Service has re-invented itself.
The work environment is more conducive. The personnel never had
it this good. The open door policy of the administration has given all
and sundry a sense of belonging. Retired personnel, including former
DGs are regularly recognised and contacted, thus giving credence to
a section of our National anthem: The Labours of Heroes Past Shall
Never be in Vain. For the first time in the history of the Service,
former DGs and Directors and personnel who had paid their dues
were invited to the DGSS Award Night and specially recognised for
their sacrifices. They reciprocated and affirmed the Service family
bond, which has been slacking. This fact has been captured in a very
stylish way as the various pictures in this edition can show.
To contribute to national development and help resolve the
question of governance, the Service has established the Institute for
Security Studies (ISS) in Abuja. The aim is to deepen the interlink
between Intelligence and Policy through training and fortification of
a higher manpower base in the security and law enforcement
agencies and thus give them the required capacity as world class
operatives and policy makers. This explains the rationale for the
Service invitation of the most fertile minds in all sectors of the
society (private/public) to interact with the course participants.
There is also an improved relationship with the public in line with the
tenets of democracy and the rule of law mantra of the present
administration led by the dynamic President Musa YARÁDUA.

This edition promises to make a good read. The articles are well
written in easy flowing prose. The themes have addressed nagging
issues in the areas of global economic crisis, maritime and aviation
security, the Niger Delta and Jos crises, etc. There is no doubt that
they will widen the horizon of understanding among stakeholders.
Happy New Year!
