Welcome to the March edition of Multicultural Links E-Newsletter.  Please
remember, if you have any information for future newsletters you can email
communitynewsletters@moretonbay.qld.gov.au by the end of the fourth week of the
month. When emailing content, please add "Multicultural" to the subject.

Training Opportunities
Moreton Bay Health Babies Cluster
Early Language and Literacy Workshop.
Explore and discuss case studies relevant to your sector and role including Childcare,
child Health, Family Support, Outreach, etc. Work together to develop strategies
and practical ideas.
When:Â Wednesday, 16 March 2011 (9:30am - 2:30pm)
Where: North Lakes Community Hall, Lakefield Drive
Please register by 10 March 2011. This is a free event. Morning Tea and a light
lunch will be provided. Please see the flyer for more information on how to

Moreton Family Support Network
Protective behaviours parents workshop - help your child/ren talk about protective
behaviour issues.
When: Tuesday, 22 March (9:00am for a 9:30am start - 12:30pm)
Where: Lawnton Community Centre, Corner Ellis and Todds Roads, Lawnton
Each parent who attends will receive a resource pack that can be used when talking
to their children about protective behaviours. Places are limited, so early
registration is essential. There is no cost involved.

Partners in Cultural Competence
Culturewise Practice workshop - introducing you to the latest approach in developing
cultural competence. Showing you how to expand your perspective and develop
your capabilities to engage in meaningful ways with others. Cost is $75 (+ GST) -
this includes course materials, morning/afternoon tea and a light lunch.
When: Wednesday, 23 March 2011 and Wednesday, 8 June 2011Â (9:00am -
4:30pm)

Art of Place Making and Creating Resilient Cities inspirational training event.

Workforce Council
EYLF and Beyond:Â Part 1 - Communicating with Confidence
Public speaking ranks higher than dying in the list of most feared things for many
people. It doesn't need to be like that.
Peter Melrose will run this session and look at what is required in order to be able to
speak confidently.
There are two sessions being held on Friday, 1 April 2011. A morning session at
Scarborough and an evening session at Morayfield. Applications must be received
by Friday, 18 March 2011. Please find all information in the flyer.
Moreton Bay Community Consortium
Parenting from the Inside Out - Enhancing the Connection in Family Relationships.Â
This six week course will assist you in things such as:

 everday parenting
 developing a better understanding of the parenting relationship
 promoting the development of positive relationships

Kidfit Exercise Physiology Service
Healthy Activity Programs for parents with children in the following age groups (with
a practitioners referral):
0-2 years; 2-5 years and 5-12 years.

Marte Meo Training
This exciting Marte Meo training opportunity will give professionals the tools to show
parents and carers how to better understand and connect with their child in a way
that promotes the child's social and emotional development. Marte Meo has been
shown to be effective in reducing challenging behaviour and enhancing relationships,
developing emotion regulation and social skills.
When: Day 1 - Thursday, 23 June 2011; Day 2 - Wednesday, 2 November 2011

Multicultural Cricket Talent Identification Program
Male and Female cricketers aged under 16 years of age with an ethnic or culturaly
and linguistically diverse background are invited to attend a talent identification
session. Cricketers over the age of 16 are also welcome to attend to be identified
for inclusion in coaching and officiating programs.

Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre
Multicultural Community Groups and Service Providers - come and network with
other providers at the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre.

CommuniCare
Discount grocer that has a store in Redcliffe and Caboolture. They do really great,
cheaply priced fruit and vegetable hampers that come direct from Rocklea markets
so the quality is good. They also give away heaps of free grocery items for people
that are struggling financially. Please see the registration form and

Mother-Baby Hub
The timetable of events at the Mother-Baby Hub for January to March can be

Women's Roundtable
New women's forum to aid women of all backgrounds, to share and learn together to
achieve true equality and peace. The next meeting will be in April. For more

Research/Reports/Resources
Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre
Funding has been received for a "Volunteering in Moreton Bay Region" booklet which
will be distributed at various outlets across the region. This will be a useful tool for
not only sourcing new volunteers but for volunteer co-ordinators needing to refer
volunteers to other organisations.
We are limiting the volunteer organisation listing to those only that accept external
referrals and volunteers from outside of their organisation. We are sourcing
information from various online directories and local knowledge - if your organisation
recruits extrnal volunteers in the Moreton Bay Region we would love for you to
provide information from you.

Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre - No Interest Loan Scheme
Providing interest free loans for individuals and families on low incomes. This
community-based program enables people to access fair, safe and equitable credit for
the purchase of essential goods and services.

Moreton Bay Regional Council
'Our Tomorrow - Community Plan 2021' project.
Council is inviting people who live, work or visit the region to complete an online
community servey as part of the 'Our Tomorrow - Community Plan 2021' project.
To complete this survey, please visit the survey webpage - you will automatically
go into the draw to win one of ten $500 cash prizes. Survey entries close 21 March
2011 and winners of the cash prizes will be notified by phone on 20 April 2011.Â
