L 900 Series

Owner's Manual

Movement switches light, alarms and much more - for your convenience and safety.
The L 900 Series lamp can be installed and ready for operation quickly at the front door, garage, patio or carport, in a
stairway, storeroom or basement.
Installation Instructions
Caution: Read the entire instruction book before you start installation.
Principle of Operation

The built-in pyroelectric infrared sensor detects the invisible heat radiation emitted by moving people or cars. The thermal
radiation detected is converted electronically, and switches on light. No thermal radiation is detected through barriers such as
walls or panes of glass.

After all connections are made and the lamp The set angle of detection is 140°. This is 20°. (May be easily cut with scissors - see

The large angle through which it can swivel (130° horizontally and 65° vertically) allows the detection
zone to be selected freely within a range of 270°.

Attention: The sensor may not be tilted to face upwards. The sensor must be aimed at least 15° below
horizontal.

Installation

Junction box installation

Caution: The installation involves connecting the unit to the power mains. 120 Volts can be lethal. First switch off power and
check that the circuit is dead by means of a voltage tester. Make sure that circuit remains interrupted.
In case of doubt contact a qualified electrician.
The mounting location should be at least 20" from any lamp because its thermal radiation could trigger the system. The
mounting height should be 6'-8'.
Installation:
A. Use flathead screw driver to remove screw (C) on bottom of lamp and remove back plate to expose lead wires.
B. Install enclosed X bar to the junction box using 2 (two) 3/4" screws (A) with regular flathead screwdriver.
C. Adjust X bar to a horizontal position that lines up with the pre-drilled holes in the back plate. Tighten center screw on X
bar to lock into position.
D. Attach lamp to the (4" x 4") backplate, feeding wires through the center hole.
E. Properly connect the wires from the lamp unit to the corresponding wires in the junction box. (See connection of
power supply).
F. Fasten lamp (with backplate) to cross-bar using the 2 (two) screws (B).
Tighten to assure back plate is firmly in place.
G. Apply caulking around edge of backplate to assure water tight fit.

Conduit Installation
Caution: The installation involves connecting the unit to the power mains. 120 Volts can be lethal. First switch off power and
check that the circuit is dead by means of a voltage tester. Make sure that circuit remains interrupted. In case of doubt contact a
qualified electrician. The location should be at least 20" from any lamps because its thermal radiation could trigger the system.
The mounting height should be 6'-8'.
1. Fix a standard conduit fitting to the conduit and lead wires through conduit fitting and central hole of the mounting
plate.
2. Place mounting plate onto the conduit fitting through central hole and fix it with a lock nut. Secure mounting plate to
wall using screws provided or screws appropriate for the mounting surface.
3. Connect wires inside the connecting compartment of the unit using enclosed wire nuts according to the schematic
printed on the mounting plate.
4. Fix lamp to the mounting plate and fasten the screw.
5. Apply caulking around edge of back plate to assure water tight fit.

Connection of power supply lead

The connection lead consists of 3 wires:
L = hot wire (usually black)
N = neutral wire (usually white)
PE = protection earth or ground wire (green or bare)
In case of doubt, identify the individual conductors with a voltage tester or contact a qualified electrician.
Warning: 120 Volts can be lethal. Before wiring make sure that the power is off at the fuse box.
Refer to the schematics on cover plate for connection.

The power mains for the lamp consists of 2 wires:

L = hot wire (black)
N = neutral wire (white)
a) Connect the ground wire of the supply lead onto the X-bar of the junction box using the green ground screw.
b) Connect black "L IN" - wire of the lamp with hot wire of supply lead in the junction box or inside connecting
compartment of lamp if mounted on junction box using enclosed wire nuts.
c) Connect white "N" - wire of the lamp with neutral wire of supply lead in the junction box or inside connecting
compartment of lamp if mounted on conduit using enclosed wire nuts.
Important: You may also install a power switch in the supply lead to switch the power on and off, of course.
Function

Lighting controller (threshold)

The desired light threshold can be adjusted continuously on the bottom of the unit, from about 2 lux to 2000 lux. Setscrew
turned clockwise to stop equals daytime operation at approximately 2000 lux; counterclockwise to stop equals nighttime
operation at 2 lux. (The unit is shipped with a factory setting for daytime operation.) When adjusting the detection zone, and for
a performance test during daylight, the setscrew must be turned clockwise to the stop.
Timer setting
(10 sec. to 15min.)
1. Minimum setting 10 secs (clockwise to stop)
2. To increase timer setting turn counterclockwise to stop equals approximately 15 minutes. (Factory setting is at 10
seconds minimum).

Calibration

Operation
Operation
In order to switch on the light without a heat source in the detection zone, switch the power on momentarily. This will activate the
light for the selected period of time.

Maintenance
The fresnel lens should be periodically wiped clean with a damp cloth if it gets dirty. Do not use any cleansing materials.

Caution:
The lamp is not suitable for special burglar alarm systems since it lacks the sabatoge protection required for this use.
Troubleshooting

Malfunction Cause Remedy

Lamp without power ■ fuse has blown, not switched on, break in switch, check wiring with volt age
wiring tester

■ short-circuit ■ check connections

Lamp will not switch on ■ during daytime operation, light threshold ■ change setting
set to night time operation

■ light bulb burned out ■ replace light bulb

■ power switch OFF ■ switch on

■ fuse blown ■ replace fuse, check connection if

necessary

■ monitoring zone not targeted properly ■ recalibrate

Lamp will not switch off ■ constant movement in monitoring zone ■ check detection zone, and readjust
or shroud if necessary

■ light switched is in monitoring zone, its ■ readjust detection zone

temperature change switches unit on again

■ set to ON by indoor switch ■ check circuitry to wiring diagram

Lamp is always ■ lamp is in detection zone ■ change detection zone, increase

switching ON/OFF distance

■ animals moving in detection zone ■ tilt sensor up or shroud

Lamp switches on when ■ cars in street are monitored ■ readjust detection zone or shroud
it should not

■ sunlight strikes the lens ■ install sensor in sheltered spot, or

change detection zone or shroud

■ reflection from light-colored walls or ■ readjust light threshold
