Failure Mechanisms

Duration: 3 days
Maximum number of attendees: 20

Workshop Overview

This workshop is designed for the following participants: Maintenance Managers, Reliability
and Maintenance Engineers, Top Level Maintenance Technicians, Production Managers,
Plant Engineers and anyone who is involved in Reliability Engineering strategies or
methodologies.

On successful completion of the course, participants will have attained the skills to be more
effective at driving reliability improvement initiatives on site, which in turn, delivers a rapid
return on investment (ROI) for their respective companies. Failure Mechanisms is widely
touted as the precursor to any formal RCA methodology training (i.e: understand how the
asset will/did fail before attempting to work out a solution to design out the failure mode).

Course Description

The course is a “hands-on” interactive learning experience that addresses both mechanical
and metallurgical failure mechanisms across standard industrial machinery and components.
The material is supported and reinforced with extensive case histories (400 kgs) and course
participants are challenged to validate their learning through various class exercises.
Attendees are encouraged to take their own failed components for analysis during the course
to maximize course benefit.

What you will learn:

• In depth understanding of how • Material Fracture Mechanisms

components and mechanical systems • Corrosion Failures
fail • Lubricant Failure Mechanisms
• Detailed understanding of the symptoms • Wear Failures
that failure mechanisms produce • Rolling Element Bearing Failures
• Detailed understanding of how failure • Plain Bearing Failures
modes behave • Gear Failures
• Introduction to Metallurgy • Filter Failure
• Inspection Techniques
