SHINE FACEBOOK GROUP – PARENTS AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S GUIDE

INTRODUCTION

SHINE are launching two free Facebook Groups in Spring 2011. One for
young people on SHINE programmes aged 13 and over and one for parents
of young people on SHINE programmes. A third may follow, depending on
demand, for a supervised group for young people under 13 to access
alongside their parents.

These Groups have been designed with three principles in mind -

Communication, Privacy and Safety.

COMMUNICATION

SHINE’s Facebook Groups are intended to provide safe, fun and social
spaces for invited parents and young people to do the following –

 Share SHINE experiences and updates with others via posts, photos,
videos and collaborative documents.
 Obtain event updates and reminders.
 Obtain one-to-one support via the Chat for Facebook function.
 Find out more about nutrition and weight management with free
recipes, hints and tips.
 Enjoy exclusive online challenges and games.
 Have your say with feedback.

The SHINE Facebook Group for Young People is for young people aged 13
and above currently on all SHINE programme. The SHINE Facebook Group
for Parents is for their parents.

PRIVACY

SHINE’s Facebook Groups are defined within Facebook as ‘Secret’. From

Facebook’s ‘New Group Design’ page – ‘[Secret] groups cannot be found in
searches, and non-members can’t see anything about the group,
including its name and membership list. The name of the group will not
display on the profiles of members...’

We describe SHINE’s Facebook Groups as ‘Footprint free’ because no

content posted on the Groups from or between participants or the group itself
within the group will appear publicly. This means that information posted by
participants (and the ‘SHINE Healthacademy’ administrator profile) will not
appear on participants’ public walls, on friends’ walls or anywhere else other
than within participants’ private ‘News Feed’ and ‘Events’ areas.

Note that content outside of SHINE’s Facebook Groups – including but not
limited to messages, photographs or other content posted directly on the wall
of a participant by another, or messages, photographs or other content posted
on the wall of any of the administrators profile pages will continue to be
visible, according to each person’s Facebook account settings.

SHINE cannot be held responsible for Facebook content outside of the

SHINE Groups themselves - whether it is created by SHINE Facebook
members or not.

If you are unhappy with any content within SHINE’s Facebook Groups, most
problems can be solved by contacting the person who created the content in
the first instance. This will either be SHINE’s administrator profile ‘SHINE
Healthacademy’ or the SHINE participant him or herself.

SHINE’s Facebook Administrator has the ability to remove unsuitable content

from the Group.

If for any reason the above does not resolve the problem, you should contact
SHINE’s Project Leader Kath Sharman via email or phone on 01142 835955.

Further information on Facebook’s Privacy and Safety provisions can be

found at Facebook’s Privacy: Information for Parents Page and Facebook’s
Privacy Policy.

SAFETY

Only members of SHINE’s Facebook Groups can view information or content

from participants, and people can only join our Groups when approved by
SHINE’s Facebook administrator Deborah Palmer. See ‘SIGNUP’ for more
information on this.

SHINE Facebook Groups are moderated directly by SHINE themselves.

SHINE’s Facebook administrator is notified when the Groups are updated by
participants and the Groups are moderated on a daily basis by the
administrator. In addition, participants themselves are expected to take a
responsible approach to content, and to highlight examples of unsuitable
content through contacting the participant him or herself or the SHINE
Facebook Administrator, (by clicking the ‘Send Message’ button on the
‘SHINE Healthacademy’ profile, email or phone 07858 521620).

SHINE are responsible for content created by the organisation but while we
will provide moderation (including the ability to remove posts and members)
for members’ content, responsibility for content (both within and outside the
Groups) ultimately lies with the creators’ themselves.

Further information on Facebook’s Privacy and Safety provisions can be

found at Facebook’s Privacy: Information for Parents Page.

SIGNUP

Young people aged 13 or over who are currently on a SHINE programme, and
their parents, can request an invitation to join either the SHINE for Young
People or SHINE for Parents group respectively by completing a SHINE
Facebook Group Registration Form.

SHINE Facebook Groups Registration forms are available on request from

SHINE. Contact the office via email (Kathwsharman@aol.com) or phone
01142 835955.

The signed form can be returned to Kath Sharman in person or via post to
Kath Sharman, SHINE Health Academy, The Alison Centre, Unit A15, 40
Alison Crescent, Sheffield, S2 1AS. Please note that while it is possible to
request to join a group via Facebook’s ‘Request to Join this Group’ button,
receipt of a completed SHINE Facebook Groups Registration Form is required
before a prospective participant can be invited to join.

Every Facebook Group is attached to a profile and it’s only possible for a
Group to invite friends to join. Once your registration has been accepted
you’ll receive a friend request from Administrator Deborah Palmer, which,
once accepted, will be followed by an invitation to join the group you wish to
become a member of.

Please note that we are unable to provide technical assistance on setup or

management of participants’ Facebook accounts.

CONTENT

Please be responsible, considerate and polite when posting content. Content

that is inflammatory, offensive or otherwise unsuitable will be removed by the
administrator and may result in removal of the participant from the group.

Prohibited content includes; promotion of alcohol, tobacco and drugs,

gambling, illegal activities, nudity or violence.

SHINE’s Facebook groups are private – content is only viewable by

participants within the group. SHINE cannot be held responsible for outcomes
arising as a result of sharing information with these participants.
