Upon Completion of this course, students will:
• Understand the basic components of a digital communication system
Expected • Understand System-level implementation and trade-off analysis using
Outcomes simulations.
• Understand Signal Detection and Optimum receiver design in a noisy channel
• Be able to do BER/SER performance analysis under AWGN and fading channels
This graduate level course covers topics in digital communications. Topics covered include:
Baseband systems and carrier modulation schemes ( ASK,FSK,PSK and QAM), Performance in
Course AWGN and fading channels, Matched filtering, maximum likelihood (ML) detection, maximum
Description likelihood sequence estimation, the Viterbi algorithm, carrier and symbol synchronization,
optimum channel equalization, Modulation-coding tradeoffs. We also briefly overview: CDMA
systems, single and multiuser detection, multicarrier systems such as OFDM with MIMO
