Fundamentals Introduction
Measurement:
To determine the size of a physical parameter in
terms of a standard unit of magnitude
Electrical Measurement:
Involves the use of some type of instrument to convert
the measured value to a form suitable for easy and
accurate interpretation for human sense (usually vision)
Fundamentals Introduction
Meteorology:
The science of instruments and measurements

VIM Important Terms:
• Fundamental Unit:
– basic quantities (used to describe other quantities)
1. Length
2. Mass
3. Time
4. Electric current
5. Temperature
6. Luminous
Fundamentals Introduction
VIM Important Terms:
• Derived Unit:
not fundamentals (need basic units for description)
e.g.,
Electric charge (C):
Coulombs = The amount of electric charge transported in one
second by a constant current of one ampere
• Accuracy:
A measure of closeness with which an instrument
measures the true value of a quantity
