At the start of this great task, I must admit that I was wor-
risome and nervous. I thought that in order to produce a worthy
finished product, we would have to pour out our very own blood,
sweat and tears. I envisioned long painstaking hours of stressful
work. But the process of creating the 2011 Le Dilettante was quite
the opposite of my mountainous expectations. The creation of this
magazine has run surprisingly smooth and I am proud to say
that it has come together nicely. I hope that you, the reader, en-
joy viewing this magazine as much as I have enjoyed taking part
in putting it together.

-Samantha Heuring

To be completely honest, I had no idea what to expect for my

time spent on the Le Dilettante. Through out this endeavor I wasn’t
really worried, even though Mrs. Ruggles was visibly distraught.
Most of the presented problems came in the use of the “for-
eign” software of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop; where as Google
became a constant source of instruction. Many more trials and trib-
ulations arose in the selecting and photographing of artwork. I am
a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to art and have never cared
much for the artwork of younger generations; Sam and Mrs. Ruggles
helped a lot here. They were very good at “convincing” me to settle
with some more art; in exchange for some cameo appearances of my
favorite animal in key locations within the pages (I wonder if anyone
noticed). I am also dysfunctional with anything that vaguely resembles
a camera, which would have posed a great void if not for Sherry. I’m
very glad I had all of them: Sherry, Sam, Mrs. Ruggles, and most of
all Google.
I truly enjoyed working on the Le Dilettante, but would be con-
tent to never see another InDesign document in my life. I thank you
all for supporting Central Montcalm art and hope you enjoy viewing
this years Le Dilettante.

The Big Old Moose

There once was a big, old, moose.

He liked to drink a lot of juice,
His name was Fred,
He liked drinking juice in bed.
One day, he fell out of bed,
He bumped his head,

There one was a man named Ted.

He had a brother, named Ned.

Are very strange indeed.

Jungle Gym Monster

Standing tall and long on the wooded land
with skin
of yellows and reds
of greens and blues
of plastic and steel.
It looks inviting,
but the boy knows better.

All he wants is to master the beast.

Slowly he climbs up, up, up.
He tells himself he won’t look down,
but he does in spite of that idea.
He peeks down and fear fills his eyes;
his head starts to spin.

He reaches his destination:

the heart of the beast.
A quick decision leads to a scream,
and with a a scream,
he goes
down
down
down.

Ode To Peanut Butter

Sticky, sweet and full of joy,

you’ve been consumed since I
was a little boy.
Placed upon your whole wheat
throne,
your nutty goodness stands
alone.

Your marriage with jelly is

oh-so good,
I’d eat you every day if I
could.
Jiff, Peter Pan, Skippy, and
Reese’s,
tears my heart to little pieces.

Peanut butter you have a

knack,
for sprucing up my after-
school snack.
Crunchy, creamy, rich and
sweet,
you’re the only butter I want
to eat.

As I am soaring,
looking down I see the sun glistening
on the clear blue water.
Suddenly I see the splash.
Instantly I think prey;
I dart toward the water,
talons ready to kill,
so close to the victory.
Splash; they hit the water.
The sound of my talons
is like the ripping of flesh.
As I swoop back up,
there is a great feeling of victory.
It is a great day;
the prey is down.

War fought yards at a time,
Give not reason nor rhyme.
We must run or we must gun,
For none shall know what none have done.

Be it addiction or be it curse,
No such thing as a purse.
Callous to the pain abroad,
The audience do applaud.

Bodies caked in mud,

Bodies spilling blood.
Falling,
Artificial stars above.

Not a shake; nor a rattle.

Tears of the wolf- who else to care?
Only those running there,
Clearing the corpse from the field of battle.

With our agony we shall run,

Day to day glory fades,
Today we shall hold our spades,
For an illness remains. --Ryan Emmons 12th

Conquer it we must.

Friends are everything,

They cheer you when you are feeling down,
Make you smile when you want to cry,
Console you when life takes a turn for the worst,
Hug you even when you don’t want them to,
Support your ideas and dreams,
Help you get past doubts and fears,
They get you through break-ups,
And help you start a new.
They will always be there for you,
Whenever you need them.
Because, that’s what friends do.

Dear Brothers and Sisters of The World,

I have not been through what you have been through,

this we know.
My race hasn’t suffered
nearly as much as yours.
I do apologize
for all the problems and pain
that my ancestors brought.

Do realize that it wasn’t me personally.

I cannot change the past,
for I live for the present.
How are we supposed to bring peace
to this problem if you won’t forgive?

Refer to me as an individual please,

not a kind.
I can only treat you as you currently treat me.
Both of our efforts are needed
to change this battle
primarily against nothing.

Sincerely,
A White Sister In The World

Confessions of Feelings

Don’t go saying you weren’t serious,

do not pretend that you were joking.
Do you think that I was laughing?
Did you even feel me choking?

Don’t take back all those lies

and pretend that they were true.
Don’t bring back all that stuff I said
about how I lived for you.

Don’t go saying we are perfect;

don’t fake you love me even more.
Don’t bring back all those feelings,
that strangled me before.

Please do no turn me around

from the steps away I’d made.
Don’t bring back memories
of drugs and a razor blade.

Don’t screw me up again;

don’t crawl inside my head.
Don’t go saying all those things,
those things that you once said.

So please don’t say that;

don’t pretend that it’s okay.
Don’t go saying “I love you”,
because you know I’ll say it back.

Great Lakes Storm

I heard the moss-covered rocks moan a soft surren-

der
as the blue-green water was thrust down upon them.
With the roar of a thousand lions, the lake
thrashed against the shore.

I could smell the spray from the lake

as it engulfed the frail dock, its cold
metal legs trembling with fear.

I was nearly thrown from my feet

as I stepped into a stampede
of galloping wind.

The rain felt like an army of spears

falling from the Heavens onto the
defenseless beach.
With the shiver of each grain of sand,
I knew how it felt to be inadequate and vulnerable.

Suddenly, without heed, clear skies

emerged from the south.
I felt the beach rejoice as the
sun once again protected it
with the warmth of her blanket.

Gliding around and around on the dance floor,
Twirling so fast the dress slaps around my calves.
Shoes sliding across the floor in perfect step,
Arms wrapped around one another so lovingly,
Our hearts beating as one,
Gazes locked, staring into another’s soul,
And liking what we see.
Love reflecting there, clear for everyone to see,
Secret words passed between your body and mine.
We are on top of the world tonight,
Just two beautiful dancers; you and I.

His Beautiful eyes.
The ones I love so much.
The ones I got lost in,
The ones he lied to me in.
Why did he do it?
Why did he look at her
With his beautiful brown eyes?
The ones I thought I loved.
The ones I got lost in,
The ones he tricked me with.
Why did he do it?
Why did he leave me,

The ones I still love,

The ones who refus to look at me.
Why did he do it?
I will miss you forever and ever,

Slipping Time

I watch time.
In breaths on cold mornings,
In moments I live in,
In pictures of my life,
In children growing,
In clocks tick-tocking.

I watch and watch,

Until I realize the tragedy.
I didn’t watch time very closely,
Because I never watched it slipping
through my fingers
