The UN is an international organization of more than 190 nations. It tries to prevent and reduce conflict throughout the world, Peacekeeping forces In 1956, Lester Pearson led the Canadian delegation at the UN. A war had broken out between Britain, France, and Israel on one side, and Egypt on the other. The war threatened to expand, So Pearson proposed to the UN that troops from its member nations should go to the war zone as neutral peacekeepers, The proposal was accepted. The warring nations agreed to pull back, and the UN troops patrolled the area to Lester 8. Pearson.
