CHAPTER 4: ANTENNA SYSTEM TESTS


EXERCISE 4

Preparation
In the following exercise, you will be verifying the previously
installed RBS antenna system for a given site. The exercise will
cover Distance To Fault (DTF) and Standing Wave Radio (SWR)
tests and related procedures.

The following resources/tools will be needed to complete this


exercise:

• Anritsu Site Master (model S331C recommended)


• Precision Open/Short/Load (for Site Master calibration)
• Laptop/PC with Site Master software
• Work Order (located on the following page)
• Test Record for Antenna System Tests (located on the last
page of this exercise)
• Checklist (located on the last page of this exercise)
• RBS 2106 and 2206 Installation and Integration Manuals,
which include:
– Preconditions
– Work Process (flowchart)
– Installation Verification procedures

Procedure
1. Locate the correct procedures for verifying the antenna system
in the manual(s).
2. Review the Work Order (following page) and test preconditions.
3. Follow the Work Process precisely, and conduct both DTF and
SWR tests.
4. After completing the antenna system tests, complete the Test
Record and Checklist. Make sure the instructor sees your results.
5. Be prepared to discuss your results at the end of this exercise.

CHAPTER 5: SITE INSTALLATION VERIFICATIONS


In the following exercises, you will be verifying a previously
installed RBS cabinet. The exercise will cover cable inspection,
switching on the RBS, setting IDB parameters, reading fault status,
various installation verifications, and related procedures.

Exercise 5.1 will be for the RBS 2106; Exercise 5.2 will be for the
RBS 2206. The instructor will assign you/your team to the RBS
model you will be verifying. If there is time allowed, you will be
conducting installation verifications on both models.

EXERCISE 5.1 – RBS 2106

Preparation
The following resources/tools will be needed to complete this
exercise:

• Multimeter
• ESD wrist strap
• Operation and Maintenance Terminal (OMT)
• System Verification Set (OMT software, interface cable, and
manual)
• Diskette (for IDB back-up)
• Work Order (located on the following page)
• Completed “Test Record for Antenna System Tests”
(Exercise 4)
• Test Record for Stand Alone Tests (located on the second to
the last page of Exercise 5.1)
• Checklist (located on the last page of Exercise 5.1)
• RBS 2106 Installation and Integration Manual, which includes:
– Preconditions
– Work Process (flowchart)
– Installation verification procedures
Procedure
1. Locate the correct procedures for verifying the RBS 2106 site
installation in the Installation and Integration manual.
2. Review the Work Order (following page) and verify preconditions.
3. Follow the Work Process precisely, and conduct all procedures and
installation verifications.
4. After completing the antenna system tests, complete the Test
Record and Checklist. Make sure the instructor sees your results.
5. Be prepared to discuss your results at the end of this exercise.

EXERCISE 6

Preparation
In the following exercise, you will be integrating the RBS with the
BSC and then testing to verify the integration. The exercise will
cover bringing the RBS into service and making test calls on the
air interface. The instructor will assign you/your team to the RBS
model you will be integrating/testing.

The following resources/tools will be needed to complete this


exercise:

• TEMS
• Laptop/PC with TEMS software
• Work Order (located after the Procedure section)
• Completed “Test Record for Antenna System Tests”
(Exercise 4)
• Completed “Test Record for Site Installation Tests” (Exercise
5.1 or 5.2)
• Test Record for RBS Site Integration (located after the Work
Order)
• Checklist (located on the second to the last page of this exercise)
• Network Element Acceptance Certificate (located on the last
page of this exercise)
• RBS 2106 and 2206 Installation and Integration Manuals,
which include:
– Preconditions at the RBS and the BSC
– Work Process (flowchart)
– Installation verification procedures

Procedure
