A. GERUND
Gerund is word derived from a verb and used a noun. Gerund end in –ing. Gerunds may be used as subject of the sentence,
object, complement and after prepositions.
1.As subject, examples:
• Singing is part of her life
• Playing guitar is one of her interest
• Cleaning the room in the house is one of the servant’s job
2. As object, for examples:
• He likes reading detective stories
• I don’t remember seeing you before
• The room needs airing
3. As complement, for examples:
• Her interest is reading novels
• Their job are filing letters, answering incoming calls and writing replying letters
• My hobby is playing football
4. After prepositions, for example:
• By working hard, I’msure you will be successful
• Anne is not interested in playing the violin
• After reading those book,you must put them back on the shelf

Rewrite the sentences by putting the verbs between brackets into gerund.

B.READING
My Hobbies and Plan
After joining the music class in my school, I began enjoying in playing guitar, it adds my hobbies. Before loving in playing
guitar, I make myself interested in writing, reading novel, singing, dancing, and traveling. By developing my hobbies, I already
earn some money from it. And actually, I have my interest in language an Biology too. My interest in language, especially,
foreign language begin after I joining a tourist escort course. But my interest in Biology is behind my back right now, because I
don’t have much time to develop it. Actually, I plan to study and learn more about it as soon as time permits me.
Playing guitar now becomes my new hobby. By playing it, I can developed other hobby too, that is singing. Besides, I can make
melodies and music with it. When I am bored with my job, as a corporate secretary, I can easy my tiredness by playing guitar
and yet my energy back. I plan to learn more and more and try getting in playing guitar. I hope I can develop my ability and
master on playing guitar one day. I also hope I can play other music instruments someday.
