Skills

Social skills Familiar with many cultures. Worked in many western European countries
participating in a number of projects. Familiar with the art of “debating”.
One needs to ‘listen’ in order to be able to express an opinion, a virtue
which is essential in the art of information security.

Organisational skills Used to be member of a larger team that was dealing with big R&D projects.
My last proposal had a budget of £1.05M. A list can be made available upon
request. Experience of European R&D projects.
Meteore project:

I was responsible for conducting the threat assessment of the pilot
application. The major stakeholders were a banking consortium, a telecoms
organisation, and a software house. It was a very demanding project that
helped me develop the social skills that a risk/threat assessor needs to have
in order to successfully and effectively complete his analysis.
Projects under development:
I am currently involved in an international initiative for creating a working
group in the area of Information Operations, in order to develop and publish
standards about IO and IW. Furthermore, I am collaborating with BCS and
examining about the possibility of creating a specialist group in the area of
IO & IW.
After the e-Crime Summit 2007 in Wales, the need for bringing SMEs
together effectively forming virtual communities for exchanging threat
knowledge and being proactive in comparison with the threat agents that
they are facing on a daily basis, was identified. I am currently collaborating
with the National High-Tech Crime Unit, the e-Crime Unit and the Welsh
Assembly Government in order to try and examine the possibility of a
consortium that will develop a technical solution to the above needs.
Academic:
I am the programme leader of the BSc (HONS) Information Security and BSc
(HONS) Forensic Computing, in the University of Wales, Newport. I was
responsible for setting up the Computer Forensics Lab in the
aforementioned University, and I am now responsible for managing its day
to day activities.
I am a member of the organisational committee for the International
Conference of Information Warfare and Security - http://www.academic-
conferences.org/iciw/iciw2007/iciw07-home.htm, I used to be an
independent expert for the European Network and Information Security
Agency (ENISA), and an academic member of the Athens Institute of
Education and Research (ATINER). I am also a member of the BCS – ISSG.
Furthermore, I have developed a number of undergraduate and
postgraduate awards in the area of computer forensics, information
security, and information warfare. The concept papers can be made
available upon request.

Technical skills Familiar with: Modula_2, C/C++, Visual Basic, MS Access, SQL Server, Turbo
Pascal, HTML, assembly Masm/Tasm 8086, bash, and Python. My main
languages used to be C, VB, bash and Python. Strong knowledge of TCP/IP,
Windows, Linux, networking in general (local and wide), SSL, and HTTPs.
Experience in developing Linux Kernel applications in C. Issues I had to deal
with are: IP Masquerade, firewall, samba server, remote login, secure web
presence and interoperability and interconnection of different OSs over
different architectures. My expertise is in threat assessment. I have
developer and published a methodology for conducting threat assessment
of electronic payment systems. It can be made available upon request. My
current field of study is computer forensics. I am currently analysing and
evaluating the different tools that an investigator has to use in the four

phases of a computer forensics investigation. I have taken part in a number
