EDLD 5352 Instructional Leadership: The Technology Link

Week 4 Assignment: Due at the end of Week 4.

Overview
Last week, you engaged in an analysis and wrote a report describing the use of technology and
information systems to enrich campus curriculum, enhance teaching and learning, and generally
integrate technology into our campus improvement plans to effectively integrate technology and
instructional leadership. Your analysis and report should provide the necessary background for
the Week 4 major assignment – developing an action plan for gathering, analyzing, and using
data from a variety of sources for informed campus decision making focusing on integrating
technology, instructional leadership, professional development and organizational leadership.
As a result of this week’s assignments, you will be able to:
• Examine and assess procedures for gathering, analyzing, and using data from a variety
of sources for informed decision making regarding the integration of technology,
instructional and organizational leadership (SBEC Principal Competency 7 indicator);
• Design and apply skills for monitoring and evaluating change and making needed
adjustments to achieve the campus vision and goals, including the integration of
technology as described above (SBEC Principal Competency 7 indicator).
Both of these outcomes are elements of Domain II, Instructional Leadership.
In writing your Week 4 action plan, use your interviews, your readings, including campus and
district improvement plans as well as any technology plans, and your Week 3 report to make
sure the action plan:
• Identifies data gathering sources;
• Provides a description of an organizational chart describing decision making
responsibilities regarding the integration of technology from central office personnel to
campus leadership and staff;
• Describes comprehensive professional development activities to achieve your action
plan (this may utilize information from the previous three weeks of readings and
activities);
• Includes an evaluation plan to assess the progress and success of the action plan.
Students will be asked to post their action plan on the Discussion Board and each student must
review and comment on at least one other action plan focusing on organizational leadership
designed to maximize the use of technology in data gathering and decision making.
Submit your assignment by 11:59 PM on the seventh day of Week 4.

Week 4 Assignment, Part 2: Professional Development Planning

Using the campus and district improvement plans, and any suggested technology
improvements, develop professional development activities that include the following:

• Reference analysis and lessons learned about the technology needs from the Week 3
report;
• Addresses professional development designed to improve the gathering, analysis and use
of data from a variety of sources;
• Includes professional development to improve decision making in the integration of
technology with instructional and organizational leadership.

Our districts goal according to their website is “the technology mission of GPISD is to integrate
technology in a way that the educational program for all children in the district will encourage
problem-solving, exploration and learning in the classroom; provide student-centered learning;
provide access to technology for all students and staff; provide for both current and future
needs; restructure the learning environment; encourage communication; complement current
key teaching strategies; and implement a comprehensive information system.” We as campuses
need to integrate this goal into our classrooms to become successful.

In week 3, I learned through the many interviews about my schools technology needs. The Star
Chart provided data about how teachers feel about the trainings they have to attend throughout
the year. We know these trainings are important but have to be reminded of how they are going
to benefit our students learning experience. The interviews also provided information of how we
continue to receive new technology every year. We need to understand the proper ways to
apply this technology in our classrooms where our students are using this technology first hand.
We are using such technology as; smart boards, projectors, interwrite pads, Elmos, computers
in each classroom. These computers are being used by the students to work on programs like
Odyssey, Study Island, PowerPoint, Word Document, and Moodle. We need to continue to
integrate these technology programs and technology into to our classrooms each year. To have
this run successfully we need to have successfully professional development trainings for the
teachers.

The professional development trainings will become successful only if the information being
learned is appropriate to the student’s success. This all starts with the campus Technology
Specialist when she reviews the Star Chart results to determine where the improvement needs
to increase and how we are going to accomplish this. She will then plan trainings around the low
areas to show teachers easy ways to improve technology use in the classroom along with
planning professional development trainings on technology instruction in the classroom. These
professional development trainings need to be designed around teachers and make sure their
opinions are being addressed. The teacher’s opinions should be addressed during the trainings
and after the trainings through surveys. The survey is a great way to get the teachers opinions
heard and help prepare the professional development trainings for next time. From these
professional development trainings, the specialist should take what they learned and plan it
around their subject area. They should take these lessons that have been integrated by
technology and teach their subject teachers how to apply it in their classroom. The teachers
should also learn how to blog their technology lessons to other teachers in their school and

around the world. Using the blog will help teachers around the world and in their school
communicate successful technology lesson plans.

Week 4 Assignment, Part 3: Evaluation Planning for Action Plan

The technology action plan integrating instructional an organizational leadership must include
evaluation components that provide measurable outcomes designed to address the following:

• Uses data and other analysis from the Week 3 report, including using the campus and
district improvement plans, and local or state technology plans;
• Provides assessments and/or monitoring reports measuring professional development
designed to use technology to improve the gathering, analysis and use of data from a
variety of sources;
• Provides assessments and/or monitoring evaluating professional development to improve
decision making in the integration of technology with instructional and organizational
leadership.
The evaluation of any action plan should always start with the feedback from the people
involved. The teachers and staff members need to take the surveys serious when
leaving the professional development trainings. They need to explain the positives and
negatives about the sessions so they can change the future sessions. The teacher’s
goal is to learn from these experiences to improve technology use in their classrooms.
These goals set out by the district need to be meet by each of the campuses. The
campuses need to make sure each of the teachers meet these goals in the classroom.
For this strategy to work efficiently all the members need to work together.
The administration in the campus needs to show support for the technology plan to work
efficiently. They need to apply the districts goals to the campus and make sure all the
teachers are aware of these goals. They need to make sure each goal is clear and
everyone understands their responsibility in completing this goal. These goals can be
measured each year through the AEIS data and the Star Chart. The teachers can
measure their administrations support by filling out surveys. The administration can use
these surveys to change their approach to technology next year when working on the
CIP. The teachers need to be able to work productively with the administration staff to
incorporate this technology in their classrooms. Technology is changing everyday and
we need to be willing to change with the technology too. Something that works one day
will not always necessary work the next day. The teachers can be evaluated with their
performance by the AEIS data, Star Chart, student surveys, required lesson plans that
incorporate new technology, professional development trainings attendance and
observations done by the administrators.

Week 4 Assignment, Part 4: Posting your Action Report and Responding to Other
Students’ action plans
Using the discussion board and the blog that you have developed, please write and post
your action plan, and be sure to:

• Read and review at least two other action plans

• Respond to other action plans by posting your comments and reflections

The purpose of the action report is to provide you with recommended procedures for
gathering, analyzing, and using data from a variety of sources for informed campus decision
making focusing on the effective integration of technology in curriculum, instruction,
assessment and professional development. Students may wish to use this action plan as
one of your school improvement projects for your Electronic Portfolio. You may also use the
Week 3 and Week 4 assignments as campus supervised hours for your internship logs. As
indicated these two weeks fall under Domain II, Instructional Leadership, and address
elements of Competencies 4, 5 and 7.
