Sessions are usually structured around a theme involving a range of activities e.g. songs/ rhythm &
percussion activities/ dancing & movement/ sensory stories/ relaxation & massage/ group
improvisation/ accessible music technology.
There are two separate sessions each week (Monday and Thursday AM) – we are looking for
someone to either run one or both sessions. The group runs throughout the year (i.e. not just term
time) and the music session runs alongside an art and movement strand, with opportunities
provided for cross art form collaborations. Instruments and resources for the session will be
provided.
2. Sensory Drop In
The Sensory Drop in is a pioneering session for people with profound and multiple learning
difficulties (PMLD)/ complex needs. Unlike a traditional music session, the Drop in does not have a
set structure – instead offering participants the opportunity to explore a range of different musical
and sensory activities at their own pace.
The session runs every Friday throughout the year from 10am – 3pm. A range of participants ‘drop
in’ for a short time across the day.
We are looking for someone to take the session forward, and in particular someone with an
interest in communication – who could develop how we could use the technology to enhance the
clients non verbal communication. For this reason, although the session is billed as a music
session, we would welcome applicants for other disciplines.
‘Movers & Shakers’ is a big, fun group and needs someone with bags of energy and enthusiasm to
take it over. We are looking for someone musical, creative, flexible, fun and good with people.
Ideally a confident singer, signing would be helpful but not essential.
The group usually works on a different theme each term, within this taking part in a range of
activities including: songs/ rhythm & percussion activities/ dancing & movement/ accessible music
technology.
The group meets every Tuesday afternoon throughout the year. Instruments and other resources
will be provided.
Due to the specialist nature of our work we estimate that the successful applicant for each
project will need to shadow our existing Music Leader for a period of time prior to taking up
position. The amount of time will be determined by each applicant’s level of experience.
