FATAL CRASH

At approximately 11:15am on March 24, 2011, members of the Harlingen

Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit were conducting an investigation
involving a male subject in a blue Dodge pick-up. The Special Investigations Unit,
assisted by members of the Gang Eradication Team in marked Police Units, had
surveillance on the suspect vehicle, when the driver committed traffic violations.
The marked Gang unit activated its emergency equipment, in an attempt to stop the
blue pick-up. The driver of the blue pick-up refused to stop, and fled Eastbound on
New Hampshire, then South on Hale to Ed Carey Dr. Officers pursued the blue
Pick-up Southbound on Ed Carey Dr. The driver of the blue pick-up disregarded
the traffic light at the intersection of Ed Carey Dr. & Northbound Frontage, and
crashed into a Silver Nissan four-door. The two occupants of the Silver Nissan (a
male driver and female passenger) were both transported to the Valley Baptist
Medical Center for treatment.

The 44 year old female passenger of the silver Nissan, identified as MARIA
DELALUZ OSORNIO was pronounced dead at the Hospital. The male driver of
the Silver Nissan, identified as 50 year old JAVIER OSORNIO IBARRA of
Harlingen, remains at the Valley Baptist Medical Center receiving treatment.

During the Investigation at the scene of the crash, Investigators and Officers
located and seized 224.5 grams of marijuana and a loaded handgun inside the Blue
Dodge pick-up. The Investigation led to a subsequent search of a local residence
where an additional 828.2 grams of marijuana was located and seized. The driver of
the pick-up, identified as ERIC CHRISTOPHER GONZALEZ, had prior Felony
convictions. GONZALEZ’s actions (evading police during the commission of a
felony) caused the fatal crash that claimed the life of one person and injured
another. As a result of his actions, GONZALEZ was arrested and faces the
following charges;

MURDER First Degree Felony

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT Second Degree felony
FELON IN POSSESSION OF A WEAPON Third Degree Felony
EVADING ARREST W/ VEHICLE Third Degree Felony
POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA State Jail Felony

The passenger in the Blue pick-up, identified as NYDIA GONZALEZ, faces

charges of POSSSESSION OF MARIJUANA.

Both subjects were arraigned on March 25, 2011. Bond was set at a total of
$1,180,000.00 for ERIC GONZALEZ, and $500,000.00 for NYDIA GONZALEZ.
